In short: A nice friendly race in a great part of the country
In full: Ran this for the first time this year after the Dundee race was cancelled. Really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Plenty of drinks station around the course - never seen so many in the second half of a race before.

In short: Great run through country lanes, villages and towns.
In full: Small marathon with around 158 runners (although half and 10km later in the morning which attract more people). Good mix of club runners and generall runners although most people do finish sub 4:30.
Starts in the city before going along country lanes, through old fishing villages, past Silver Sands holiday park and Lossiemouth airbase, before running through Lossiemouth itself - very popular with golfers. Around the harbour area and back onto the country lanes before returning to Elgin itself.
Plenty of long stretches of flat / undulating road with a few inclines thrown in although these aren't too bad.
Water stations every couple of miles with water in bottles and they don't run out!
T-Shirt given out in the town hall before the race when you pick up your race number.
Medal, banana and orange juice carton at the finish + tea etc in the town hall I think.
Commentator generally announces your name and number and where you're from.
Excellent organisation from all involved - plenty of marshalls showing you the way and water stations well manned.
Only downside was no date on the t-shirt although the medal does says 2009.
Well worth doing especially if you want an uncluttered run so that you can run at your own pace.

In short: A splendid race with great Scottish hospitalily
In full: Perfect weather on a PB course. Start and finish in Elgin book-ending a flat scenic course.
Enjoyed this marathon immensely and it has the imprint on how to stage a top event. The organisers prioritise the runners laying on an imaginative and varied route ranging from urban, coastal and rural. Plently of marshals at all the junctions, and they did a great job supporting the runners and managing the traffic. Water stations were regular and stocked with the handy sized bottles. Loved the mile markers counting down rather than up although the first few felt a bit daunting!
Crowd support on the course was a little sparce, but their were some thar popped up regularly enroute to give that vocal cheer that makes a difference to tired runners.
Running commentary from the race MC as we came down the home-straight, and a medal, t-shirt and plentiful free refreshments for all finishers.
One thing that I wanted to add that distinguishes this event from most is the generosity of the organisers. A number of us from the 100 Marathon Club came to celebrate a friend's 100th marathon at Moray, and for her to be awarded £100 worth of gift vouchers by the organisers was both symbolic and touching. The people behind this event came across as the most genuine that you would like to meet, and I would love to return for another stab at this next year.

In short: Beautiful scenery, excellent organisation and low entry cost.
In full: Ran this as my second ever marathon yesterday (Sun 13th September 2009). An excellent course and with an amazing number of thoroughly supportive marshals. Water stations at 3 mile intervals approx as well. The only thing that could improve this would be a technical t-shirt (and availability of XL sizes) rather than the cotton T-shirt provided but I appreciate that this would likely add to the cost.

In short: Enjoyable half, very well organised, friendly race.
In full: My 2nd time running the half marathon, and got a PB this time. Really enjoyable race with great organisation. Buses take all the runners to the start point for the half which is at Gordonstoun. Changing facilities and toilets are available there with a bus to take belongings back to the town hall. Lots of water stations along the way, pockets of spectators and friendly marshalls. Lovely finish running past Elgin Cathedral and into the Cooper Park where the commentator announces the names of the incoming runners. Fine spread at the Town Hall afterwards, and nice quality t-shirts given out too. Will probably be back again next year.

In short: Very nice race, despite baffling registration process...
In full: This was a lovely race and a nice day out, seems the organisers have been doing it for many years now, all the other reviews here are very positive (as is this one) but one thing that really confused me is why not send out the race numbers in the post with the information blurb instead of making people turn up super early to collect them? This would have saved a whole heap of hanging around, having to get to the Town Hall an hour or so before the race and queuing up for your number, instead you could’ve just turned up, with your race number in place, and have got on the bus to the start! No messin’, me and my partner must’ve been waiting for nearly 2 hours prior to starting the race! I mean everyone was lovely just seemed a little bizarre and labour intensive to me that’s all. No other real issues, lots of water stops, great marshalls, lovely countryside route (not mind blowingly spectacular but pleasant enough), shame there were a few crazy tractor drivers who actually nearly drove in to me and several other runners, but you can’t legislate for that I guess. Weather was pretty much perfect. The finish was grand, nice touch with the commentator reading out everyone’s name, but no sign of any of the alleged “goody bags”, just a banana and some orange juice (and I was in the 10K) along with the medal and the t-shirt that was given at the start of the race (also a bit odd). Also would’ve been good to indicate that there was food and drinks available for free, this was not obvious as it looked like a café to me! Would certainly do again as it’s fairly local, but I know there are better out there.
