In short: Perfect organisation but wind & bleak course makes it too painful! In full: I'm a fairly nippy runner but really struggled in these winds, which I'm told are par for the course on these Fens, which made me splutter into my porridge this morning when I read other reviewers describing it as a great PB potential course! Marshalls were really great tho and the results and photos were up incredibly quickly so the organisation was spot on, but won't be doing it again as the wind nearly killed me! In short: Fast, mostly flat and fun! In full: What fun and a PB! A well organised race with some very friendly and encouraging marshalls. Good, uplifting support in the village on the first loop back and as we entered for the finish. Drink stations and sponges were spot on. Lovely medal to remember it all by. Thank you very much to all involved in organising such a memorable day. Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: Not so Grunty... In full: This was my third Half Marathon and I am now running about 2 hrs.
This was a very club oriented event but I was made to feel very welcome. The organisation was smooth. I really do mean smooth. The marshals have to cope with some traffic as well as the runners. At 500 ish runners, closing roads is not really an option. I thought that the marshals were efficient and friendly.
As to the course - It is FLAT (well apart from one small hill that you hit twice). If you are on form, that PB will be tumbling.
This is now a firm fixture as far as I am concerned. When do the 2010 entries open? Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: Economy event In full: Nice race, a bit bleak out on the fens, thank god the wind was from the north and not the west. Great support in the village and good marshalling. Very basic - low entry fee, only got a medal and some water at the end. No chip timing. Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: Fairly flat and fast, but very bleak out on the fens In full: Top notch organisation, great medal, route was pretty flat, and on a good day, should be good for a PB, but today the wind was shocking on some of the sections. There is some nice support through the village, but its really, really bleak out on the fens with no support apart from the great marshalls. Good facilities, but its not really suited to beginners, I quickly found myself towards the back as the pack shot off. Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: A new PB, but rather dull In full: You get the PB potential with it being flat, but as a result it's a very featureless landscape for the majority of the route. I certainly wouldn't want to run it on a windy day.
Support through the village was good and the marshalls were well placed and encouraging, but it's a bit of a trek for me so I won't be back. Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: A very posiitve experience In full: Second time i have done this and a PB by several minutes this time. As race venue is a school, runners can have a shower after plus massages available. Nice to not get yet another t-shirt to put in the drawer but have the opportunity to buy one. Date of review: September 21, 2008
In short: Fantastic race In full: Fantastic race, nice 2 looped course without being too boring. Great Support through the village, marshalls all friendly, great medal.......a wonderful day, my first half and in 1:45 too! - however I would not call mile 3 and then again at mile 11 flat, but I was pleased to see a water station at the top :) will do it again Date of review: September 16, 2008
