In short: Great event In full: Undulating course with good surfaces and support dotted throughout the course. Lots of water stations and friendly marshalls and cheering along the way. A downhill section at about 6 miles leads you past the start/finish and lots of cheering and a big lift.
I do wonder if the two loops that make up the course would be better run in reverse though, so that this point came a bit later on and we got to enjoy a downhill finish.
Plenty of stalls and food on the go (if you don't mind cheap, chewy burgers) and everybody seemed very friendly.
Goodie bag had a kit-kat, water and a pedometer in, so was a bit disappointing.
The idea of giving the first 100 a gold medal and the next 200 a silver is good - a compromise between those who want a memento and those who believe medals are for winners.
Main problem was lack of toilets. I don't understand why they think 15 or so is enough for an event that is meant to cater to 1800 plus family, friends etc. Date of review: October 3, 2013
In short: Fantastic run through the countryside In full: This is a brilliant half marathon and without doubt a race I had been looking forward to for months. It’s very well organised, starting with easy access to loads of parking close to the start/finish. Good amenities, although like most races a few more loo’s would go down well. Not too bad for the gents but the ladies queue stretched on for a bit.
The scenic rural course is challenging and undulating with a small section of off-road. The roads are closed so no need to worry about traffic, just plod along and enjoy the countryside and the support of the locals.
Most importantly the finishers medal is a good chunky medallion on a quality ribbon which can be proudly displayed on any chest.
If I had one complaint it would be the disappointing turnout. The organisers really need to improve the website and maximise the use of social media to get the message out there. This is a great race and should really attract a lot more runners! Spread the word.
In short: The hills get steeper every year. In full: Very well organised, with friendly marshalling and great to be able to park within a few metres of the start. I've run this several times and after each one I question why I don't find a flatter event to run, but I always come back. Date of review: October 1, 2013
In short: Great course and a well-organised race In full: Had heard good things about this, and wasn't let-down. Start/finish area very good with lots of stalls and stuff for the kids. Start area a bit crowded but it soon widens out. The rest of the course was great. Undulating with one tough-ish incline and then some shorter gentler ones in the second half. Bit of a challenge but nothing to destroy you. Running through Christ's Hospital school was truly brilliant, and the marshal's and supporters were superb. Will be back next year. Only downside was I only found one men's loo, so plan ahead! Date of review: October 1, 2013
In short: undulating route down country lanes In full: Outstanding organisation and marshalling. Had a lovely village fete feel at the start/finish area. Was a warm day for the time of year so was very glad to be carrying own water as water supplied in cups at water stations. The run through the school with the band playing was a rather nice touch... we all love a little uplifting band after all :-) Undulations made the course challenging (well for me anyway) but would definitely look to do it again. In short: Well organized, well marshaled and very friendly In full: I loved this run! It had some playful parts to keep it interesting and kept it challenging enough without be too tough to put people off. The start/finish area was really good, family and spectator friendly. Loved running through the school, and the band was really good and uplifting. I found all the marshals and officials to be really friendly and supportive. There were enough supporters out on course that it didn't matter that none of my own had gone, because I was being cheered along the way anyway. It was great coming through the start/finish area after the first loop as it gave a really good buzz to the start of the second half of the run. PB'd by 5 mins 45 secs, more down to a previously soft PB but always wanted to push on with the course. Great event and I will definitely be back. (Not having my name in the programme only means I will book earlier next year). Date of review: September 29, 2013
