In short: a great local 10k & much better value than most big city events
In full: this was my 2nd time at the MP10k and despite a dreadful personal performance - 3min slower than last year - it was a really good occasion. The organization was impeccable and the crowd was friendly. Given that the course goes through what is probably the most abused post-industrial landscape in the entire UK, it was remarkably scenic. It was virtually all off-road on the Taff Trail cycle route which made for a more relaxed feeling than roads.
Full marks to John Diffey and colleagues at Merthyr police and I definitely plan to be back next year.

In short: Call the Police...speed trap!
In full: First time I have run this one since 2005, they have changed the course since then which is now along the Taff trail and is a shorten version of the San Domenico 20 mile which I am well familiar with having run in it on now less than three occasions.

The course itself is fast predominately flat with a few "bumps" one problem is the immovable bollards littering the course and if running in a group or like me run with head down could cause problems.

The area the race is set isn't the most scenic of places, parts are reminiscent of the Chatsworth estate in "Shameless" but in all fairness to them the locals did come out and support the race and there was good support at the finish line.

There was a good turn out and a mixture of both club and fun runners. The marshals and St John's were extremely vocal along route and nice number of water stations.

The goody bag at the end contained a nice medal mars bar and bottle of Brecon Carreg all for £7 what a bargain!

The mars bar in the goody bag made the slog worthwhile!

In short: Nice scenery, bit confusing towards end for newcomer to course
In full: Punctual start, convenient and free parking, friendly atmosphere, nice course, predominantly flat, marshalls and direction signs a bit sparse during the last 2km.

In short: Always enjoy this one, but more so this year
In full: This is a wee gem of a race. Excellent value, unpretentious, and this year I was delighted to find that it's now all off-road, on the Taff Trail, having switched from going through some of the villages. (That was always a bit of a bind as you had to stick to the pavements and they were too narrow). So yes very pleased with the new route. Weather better this year too, conditions were in fact quite perfect. Well done again and look forward to next year.

In short: My first race, challenging for me and good fun
In full: Easy to find where I needed to go a nice course and plenty of encouragement from the marshalls, even if I was pretty much at the back!!!
