In short: Fantastic and scenic marathon! In full: My first marathon and I found it very tough when the hills really set in around mile 18... I'll do it again, but not before I've got a bit of experience of flatter courses! Date of review: October 9, 2010

In short: The Scenery, course and atmosphere are excellent. The second half was less dramatic and less hilly, more support with a frustrating last 1.5 mile listeneing/ watching people finish. The first half, the atmosphere and the police escort make it a must. Date of review: October 8, 2010

In full: An excellent day even with the early start to meet the bus to the wet and windy start couldn't fault the organisation getting all those buses there and the stag by the side of the road - picture postcard stuff - enjoyable run a testing 2nd half a couple of nice rolling hills would do it all again next year! In short: Superb organisation, magnificent race In full: Loved it. The convoy of Busses to the start, the motorcycle marshals, the Portaloos blowing around in the wind, the torrential rain, peeing in the forest, little groups of wet people huddled at the side of the road clapping, the hills, the water stations, the scenery, the hills, the finish, the medal, the goody bag with the tin of soup in it, THE WEE NESSIE, family atmosphere, big inflatable monster.... The pasta party was a bit school dinners (ish)but it was spectacular. Back next year i hope. Date of review: October 7, 2010

In short: My first marathon and I loved it! In full: This really is a must-do race, despite the "challenging" second half! Organisation was great and the Wee Nessie children's race was a nice touch - daughter very pleased with her medal and t-shirt. It's an early start for a 10am race, with the bus to the start taking nearly an hour and a half, but luckily not too much waiting around a very cold, wet and windy start area. First half seemed to fly by, with plenty of downhills and only one uphill of any note, but the second half was tough, with a hill which seemed to go on for ever, then finally levelled out only to be replaced by another!
Once in Inverness, it seemed a long way to the Ness Bridge (though it really wasn't), especially when I could hear people finishing on the other side of the river...The last 100m to the finish seemed almost unbearable, but I made it with a big smile on my face and emerged into the muddy quagmire of Bught Park feeling very tired, very emotional and very happy.
Fab support from spectators at various points along the route, with a special mention for the guy playing Scottish music from his car parked by a five bar gate.
No major organisational problems at all, maybe the showers could have been more clearly signposted and I didn't have the post-race meal so can't comment on that, all in all a fantastic day and I will definitely be back next year. Date of review: October 6, 2010

In short: Brilliant - If you enjoy the Pain!! In full: Fantastic race, still feeling the pain after all the hills. Started feeling the onset of cramp at the hills between 18-19 miles, kept it at bay until 24 miles then folded like an ironing board! Got great encouragement from other runners and spectators to crawl to the finish in 3hr 21min. Soup and roll was good at the end, the showers which were in the stadium were just too far to walk to after 26.2 miles of hills!! Only done Edinburgh Mara before - that was easy compared to this!! Be back next year for more pain!! Date of review: October 6, 2010
