In short: You cannot fail to be inspired by this race. In full: Fantastci organisation from the option of a double decker bus to the start and excellent support on the way. The rain helped keep everyone refreshed despite covering over some of the more spectacular views. I stayed in Bala overnight and found the hour's drive to the start a good time to get my thoughts together. If you want a challenging Marathon this is definitely the one to choose. In short: Gottadothatagainnextyear In full: What a great location!
This was my first marathon this year. I had major surgery in April (plates and screws from a multiple fracture in my leg) so training was 11 wks starting from absolute scratch just off crutches.
And this was what the effort was all about! Fantastic atmospheric scenery. Great organisation, people at the refreshment stations very friendly and definitely useful mars bars in later stages, the people along the route were again fantastic.
So many runners took the time to say hello or help out anyone vaguely struggling - it was a nice event.
Thanks to all the organisers - see you next year. Date of review: October 31, 2007
In short: Awesome scenery and long long hills In full: This was my 5th marathon but my first Snowdonia. I was prepared for the fact that there were hills but not for how long they were! Never the less, I got around ok, despite the rain! The scenery around you is unparalled in my experience. Seeing the trail of ant like runners marching down the hill after the first hill was magical. Regular water points and the odd mars bar kept the energy levels and motivation going. Certainly a challenging course but despite that only 5 secs (grrrr!) slower than London. Will certainly do this race again in the future. Date of review: October 31, 2007
In short: What a Buzz!! In full: First ever marathon and so pleased to have done this one. Scenery great the first climb up and then down the other side makes the first 8 miles go very quickly. Prefered the hilly sections to the flat (better views) The 21 mile hill was a beast but the the feeling of achievement at the end well worth it. Completing this as a first gives you confidence to go for most other marathons. Look forward to doing it again. (advice: book your B&B early or you will end up getting charged high prices at the only hotels left) Date of review: October 31, 2007
In short: Loved my first marathon! In full: An amazng race which saw me finish just under 5 hours (1 place behind Alun Brain below!). The first climb was fine although seemed to keep going. I hit 14 miles in 2hrs10 feeling good but a lack of training hit me hard in the second half. I didn't see anyone run more than a few hundred metres at a time on the way up the last hill. I managed to almost sprint down the hill at the end and overtake a few only to be presented by a cheeky little uphill in the last half mile that caught me out again. The scenery, organisation and general feeling was incredible. I am glad this was my first rather than the regular London. Date of review: October 30, 2007
In short: Great, will be back!!! In full: My first marathon and wasn't sure if I'd make it all the way round (especially as I kept hearing about "That Hill" at the end)! But that really wasn't an option as the camaraderie amongst the runners/supporters/marshalls was fantastic, I admit I walked a few times but every time someone would ask "are you OK?" The poor marshalls and supporters were soaked but still managed great cheers for everyone at the end. Again would add that the tea/coffe and biscuits at the end were very welcome. I really feel a sense of achievement just getting round! Date of review: October 30, 2007
In short: Definitely do it once, but prepare a LOT In full: A glorious race with wonderful views if the weather permits. So much harder than a normal marathon though. Brutal. The second 2 mile hill about halfway was more intense than I expected. I didn't think I'd want to do it again, but was sure that I would by the next day. Date of review: October 30, 2007
In short: Just Like Heaven In full: A Heartfelt Thank You to all the organisers, volunteers, supporters and fellow runners for making this the most memorable running event of my life - a day I hope never to forget. It was just like a dream... Date of review: October 30, 2007
In short: Fantastic race and happy I finished In full: great atmosphere and a great race. I finished in just under 5 hours and was really proud of that. A run that makes you proud of finishing regardless of the time. still can't believe it took me 42 mins to just do the first 4 miles! Date of review: October 30, 2007
