In short: Yet another well organised race In full: I've now done this 5 out of the last 6 years and really appreciate the work that goes into the event and the improvements based on feedback from previous years. e.g. we had a couple additional road closures over the last third of the course which was helpful. Local support was fantastic and the overall atmosphere was great.
Highest marshall to runner ratio I've seen. Highly recommmended.
Only minor improvements required: there were still a couple places where we had to dodge unnecessarily aggressive drivers. The km and mile markers are sometimes way off the real markers (I think the measured ones are painted on the road). Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: That hill doesnt get any easier... In full: Again, a well organised race. The hill stops any chance of a PB for most, and I dont find it an easy course. But for some reason its an enjoyable race, good support, lots of marshallls and helpers. Well done Handy Cross... Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: Excellent organisation, great atmosphere and commentator, tough course. In full: Ran this for the first time in 2007 and have been back every year. Its a tough course with a good hill at the beginning. The commentator always raises a smile and the atmosphere is great. One of the best value for money races out there with an awesome goody bag to all finishers. The medal is also top notch! Great race, will defintely be back next year. Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: Well organised, friendly with enough undulations to keep it challenging. In full: Huge thanks to Handy Cross runners and Grant and Stone for this well organised and friendly event. I enjoyed the course - yes, even the killer uphill in the first mile and downhill just before the halfway point. But then I like hills! The route back from Bourne End seemed to go on forever, but was flat and could put in some fast, even mile paces. Water and sponge stations were plentiful and well placed. Cheery marshalls helped make the day as the other support was fairly limited. The medal was one of the best I've received - had a copy of the route on it which I thought was great. The technical tee-shirt and other goodies in the bag would put other, much more expensive races to shame. Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: An event well worth the effort In full: Despite the warnings about the 'hills' the only one of note was the first one - most folk ( at the back )walked this. The rest of the route was flattish or about half way decidedly downhill! Support albeit sparse and intermittant was vocal in the housing estates and along the roads which were traversed.Back-up was good and marshalling was excellent and encouraging. The medal , t-shirt and goody bag were very good. Overall , compliments to the organisers on a well run event which really was a pussy cat in wolf's clothings. Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: physically, mentally & strategically challenging In full: Whenever I do this race (3 times now) it dawns on me again that you really need some stamina in the last 3 or 4 miles with the incline. The bit around the back of the Rye at the end to the finish seems to go on forever but once you're over the line you get an excellent goody bag and medal (and good technical tee-shirt this year) The chip timed results were up on a notice board very speedily... I'd recommend this race to anyone Date of review: July 15, 2012

In short: A flat course doesnt guarantee a fast course In full: It had all the frills and fantastic goodie bags, t-shirts and medals that the Wycombe Half had but sorry I didn't enjoy it. I came as others had flagged the fast pb course but I was disappointed. The start was too congested 1400 runners crammed into a 4m wide path with fencing either side. More gaps were needed in the fence to allow runners to get into the pens. The course itself was a very twisty turny through the streets of Marlow. This for me made it difficult to keep the pace going. Lots of sharp bends where others were jumping up and down kerbs to go quicker. The whole race reminds me of the bits I hated about the the Wycombe half i.e the dull hosing estates. Thankfully the roads were closed which meant a mostly traffic free run.
