In short: Great day out on the Downs.
In full: I've never run off-road before. 20 miles with a map and hopefully someone in front to follow makes for a really interesting day out. Thanks to everyone who I followed or who shouted at me when I went wrong. I found it really difficult to understand the directions - all my energy being directed to my legs and not my brain! I think I would have been in dire straits if I'd been on my own. I kept missing even the more obvious route indicators. (D'oh).

The track with the flint stones was treacherous and I'll have to get better off-road shoes for next year, but apart from that, a really good training run for an autumn marathon. Excellent opportunity to get some hill-work in.

The water stations were well stocked (yum) and the marshalls were really encouraging and enthusiastic.

Beautiful scenery when I remembered to look up and fab weather today too. I can imagine it's a much tougher prospect if the weather is poor!

I'd definitely give it another go, but may opt for the 10 miler if I'm not building up to a marathon. It's hard to voluntarily put your body through that, although I feel great now - 7 hours later. Much better run than those boring road races with all their mile markers and arrows, no sense of adventure at those events!

In short: One to be added to the racing calendar especially if you enjoy runnning offroad!
In full: Everything about today demonstrated what I love about running.

A challenging route almost completely offroad with some testing hills and terrain, and some glorious scenery to soften the pain;

The added test of staying sharp to navigate the route which was signposted and with instructions/map as back-up (not needed by me);

well-stocked water/feed stations which kept you fuelled-up to the finish;

fantastic camaraderie amongst the runners, and I have never chatted so much during an event. This made the miles fly by.

Dunstable Road Runners have laid on a super event and it will become more popular as word spreads. Please don't chhange a thing and see you next year!

In short: Great experience. Wonderful scenery. Best ever race.
In full: Fantastic race, run through some beautiful countryside. Well organised and required a bit of "working out" along the way, but enough clues and markers to reassure runners they were on the right track.

Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls. A nice touch with the Mars bars and jelly babies at the checkpoints.

Good idea not to have a T-shirt/medal and keep the cost down instead.

Best race I've ever done - and I've done a few!
