In short: If you only do one half marathon a year, do this one In full: This is my second Riverside Half and the high standard of marshalling was again a big winner with me. I also wish other race organisers would take a leaf out of the Riverside Runners' book re the goody bag - great t-shirt and nice foodie stuff. Again the route was pleasurable and, yes, there were a few cars but less than I would normally be having to cope with on my usual Sunday run. The bitter wind was a bit of a downer but I still managed a PB so I'm praying for sunshine next year! Date of review: November 20, 2007
In short: A well organised race with plenty of PB potential. Interesting start and finish in housing estate. Well marshalled in cold conditions. Great support in villages on course. Great downhill 3 to 4 mile finish. I'll be back Date of review: November 20, 2007
In short: Excellent Race - perfect example of how to organise & run a road raceee In full: The icy wind and freezing conditions on the start line didnt bode well initially but had the effect of preventing the 'Going Off Too Fast Syndrome' - Then, with the last 3 miles downhill & wind behind made for a strong finish & a PB - I know there were loads in this race from listen to happy but cold participants afterwards. It's easy to see why this race is so popular - Riverside Runners organisation is fantastic with numerous excellent marshals and support Date of review: November 20, 2007
In short: Fantastic as ever - thanks Riverside! In full: Superb organisation, great atmosphere, supportive and helpful marshalling, high class t-shirt - the only race I never miss! Just try to switch off that wind next year please. Date of review: November 19, 2007
In short: Don't know what the fuss is about - my least favourite race of the year In full: Thought I'd try this race as I used to live round here and it's been very well reviewed in the past.
The good: Marshalling, excellent goody-bag with quality shirt, prompt results service, clock at halfway, chip timing, accurate mile markers.
The bad: Poor start/finish area, especially for spectators and families. Burnt out wreck in the car park, dogsh*t on the pavements. 2-way traffic competing with the runners is dangerous - I was literally pushed off the road at one point by a moving car.
Traffic aside, the course is good - some gentle undulations to keep it interesting and provide some nice views. The Abbotsley junction (runners pass here twice) looks a much better spectator's location than the start/finish.
In short, good things for the hardcore clubber this event seems to be aimed at, but they wouldn't tempt me to make the trip again. Sorry! Date of review: November 19, 2007
In short: An excellent race, with smooth organisation and a very nice route. . In full: This is my second time at this event, as last year, it is brilliantly organised, with superb marshalls. The support along the way is peerless, and goes to show how much better club organised races are when compared to commercial events. Coupled with a very pleasant course and the last three miles being down hill. Excellent. Date of review: November 19, 2007
