In short: If you want a personal best then this is the one In full: Travelled up to Edinburgh from cambridge to take part along with the wifes step-dad as this was his first half marathon at the age of 65. Course was fine, bit boring in parts but overall pretty good and fairly flat. Lack of crowds and encouragement left you feeling like you were taking part in a training run but the finish more than made up for it. Organisation couldn't be faulted and I broke my personal best by almost ten minutes which not only shocked me but my wife who was stood chatting at the finishing line instead of taking photos. all in all I had a great time and my step-dad-in-law finished in 2 hours 20 and he had a blast. In short: Glorious day although that wind was a bit biting! Reasonable course, with pretty scenery eventually. Could learn a thing or two about goody bags though! In full: New PB on this one, so cannot complain about the course. Felt a bit low when the anouncement at the start geared everyone up as the elite groups, sub-hour, sub-one and a half took off...then he said the 'strollers' were now moving off! Please! Everyone deserves a wee bit encouragement! Date of review: April 8, 2007

In short: Huge improvement on last year. In full: There was much criticism of this race last year, but the organisers took it on the chin and tried to address it all. There's still minor niggles, but that's all they are. Start and finish organisation and the use of timing chips greatly alleviated the timing issues. Some of the scenery's a little uninspiring, but some is great as long as there's no wind.Plenty of water etc, and signage good (although keep your eyes peeled for the mile markers, they could do with being a bit higher so you can see them above the crowd). Great post race opportunities and entertainment for non runners and runners alike, I travelled from Glasgow and will make the trip again based on this improvement. Date of review: April 8, 2007

In short: A fantastic race along a less frequently seen part of the Scottish capital. In full: Several of the reviewers have written negatively about the race organization. I can't say I agree with comments about the start. After all we all had race chips - which in addition to precisely recording times - would have stayed on if correctly secured. To my mind this also negates gripes about the way runners were cordoned off with their expected finishing times in mind. You'll always get runners disregarding these sorts of divisions -slow in front of fast. I started within the two hour lines, after arriving later than I'd planned on. Since most of us aren't elite-standard, why get into a kerfuffle over something which is really in all truth nothing. I'm not in a position to judge the finish though since I bettered my P.B by some eight minutes, running through after 01:35:42. The public support was much like the Sussex Beacon Half in Brighton on Feb. 18th, Edinburgh was warmer and sunnier on the day, and Dun Eideann was nothing like as windy as the south coast of England. All in all over the weekend beautiful accents enchanted this goateed and moustachioed lad from south London. Plus I'll be returning next year for the same event. Peace all ! In short: Great PB potential. plenty water stations, not much atmosphere at the start compared to The Great Run & Great Scottish Run events! Poor goody bag aswell. Scenery at sea great but rest of it not inspiring, also finishing crowd quite small. In full: Can't grumble cos I got a great PB, but for atmosphere it lacked a lot. The final run up to the finish round the side of ocean terminal was pretty bleak even though you knew you were near the finish!! There wasn't much of an area for spectators to 'line' the finish route. No bananas and a very poor goody bag! When you compare it to The Great Scottish run in Glasgow there is no comparison. The start and finish of that race which I appreciate is a huge event is awesome.. Also next year I would park about a mile away from the start cos the traffic as usual in Edinburgh was horrendous. BUT I would still recommend it as a good race. Date of review: April 6, 2007
