In short: A very good city center race for all abilities. In full: 2nd time of running and getting better each year. Really good start and finish in the stadium with fantastic support on a cold rainy day. Shame about no t-shirt or goody bag and cups of water. Change's to these could make this event into a crscking half marathon. All in all, well done Sheffield! Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: Good support, poor route, no t-shirt In full: I really enjoyed the crowd support, who turned up and stood in the rain to cheer us on. Thank you all. As the race course.. there were parts where we were made to slow down because it was 'slippery'. This is because they chose to have the race go down an entrance ramp to a car park which was slick with petrol and oil and it was wet. Not a good choice and spoiled some peoples PB chances. I hope this is changed for next year. The course was billed as 'flat', which it wasnt. There were a number of inclines which werent that bad but the advertising was misleading. The goody bag was abyssmal... no t-shirt! I got an Alpen bar and a medal... rubbish, as this race cost the same as others of its kind and they manage to include better stuff. Facilities at the stadium were good though. Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: Very good city race with stadium start and finish In full: This is a good course and as flat as Sheffield is able to deliver. Good atmosphere on Eccy Road and through the centre and despite the other complaints I was glad to have a medal this year rather than a t-shirt. Excellent stadium start and finish make this an event worth doing. Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: City & industrial areas - not boring like some say! In full: I've read lots slagging Sheffield off - not picturesque - of course its not it's in the city and surrounding industrial areas!
That said, its a great course. Mildly challenging undulations upto 8 miles, but down hill from there on. Got a PB so it can't be all that bad.
Organisation was good, with only a few suggestions for improvement - BOTTLED WATER PLEASE! We'll pay another 50p, just give us bottled water - or one of the larger sponsor could easily stump up the cash.
The finish was a bit crowded - should have had the medals & cereal bars in goodie bags ready as handing them out one by one slowed things down.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and I will definately be coming back next year! Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: Excellent well organised race and will hopefully be back next year. In full: Really enjoyed the race, though the weather was awful. The only down point was queuing in the cold to get medal and good bag, but apart from that it went like clock work and finishing in the Don Valley Stadium was ace. I ran this race as part of my challenge, Challenge 40, to find out more go to www.challenge40.co.uk. Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: Well organised, well supported - well done Sheffield In full: My 10th half and this was the best organised and most traffic-free so far.The support on Ecclesall road was fantastic. Remarkably flat route for a hilly city - PB potential. Everything one could expect from a city race and cheerleaders as well! Date of review: May 1, 2008
In short: Dissapointed that organisers resorted to a medal again this year In full: My local race so I've ran this for last 4 years, was definately a lot busier this year due to the record entries. Well organised ...didn't seem to be any issues at water stations which plagued last years race. However I was very dissapointed that all I ended up with at the end was a cheap medal, a couple of cans of red bull and a cereal bar. This seemed a bit of a rip off because of the entry fee. The organisers need to justify this price by either: *Bringing back t-shirts *Handing out a better goody bag *Bringin in bottled water...I don't mind the high entry fee if I'm not choking on water from a cup.
I'll probably still run next year with it being a local event, but I'm a bit dissapointed with the value for money for this event. Date of review: May 1, 2008
