In short: What can I say, horrendous weather, difficult conditions and still an awesome event. Still worth the 700 mile round trip from the South Coast :-) In full: Beautiful weather Friday, horrendous Saturday (the day of the Race) and fantastic Sunday. The amended course was wet, hard going and challenging. The Organisers where challenged by Mother Nature at here worst and put on a great event. Looking forward to the double Helvlyn & Ullswater in November. These events are worth the hassle of 700 mile round trip because they will do everything to make it happen safely. Thanks for a great weekend when most people were complaining about the weather!!!!!! Date of review: October 6, 2008

In short: Still a brilliant day - despite the weather caused/safety driven route change In full: This was a huge challenge for the organisers this year. Torrential rain and high winds left the car park and 'race arena' waterlogged and led the local Mountain Rescue team to advise that the race should not go onto its normal route across the fells. Naturally, when the professionals from the MRT advise an organiser not to send several hundred people onto a mountain, a responsible organiser listens!
The challenge then was to 'get something on' and this was achieved despite the weather getting even worse. 11k at low level through the mud, including several swollen streams and a number of minor floods isn't the same as 15k through the mountains but it was still a good challenge.
I'm particularly impressed by, and thankful to, the dozens of marshalls who stood around in pouring rain with smiles on their faces to ensure that the revised event went off safely and without a hitch.
A triumph in the circumstances - well done, as ever, to everybody involved. Date of review: October 5, 2008
