In short: Faultless In full: What a superb race. The organisation from start to finish was perfect, the marshals were the friendliest and most encouraging I have encountered and the route was beautiful.
Even the weather was crisp and bright to match.
The setting off in 4 waves was just right to avoid any bottlenecks and took other canal users into account so they wouldn't be "stonewalled" by an avalanche of runners all at once. I did notice some runners sneaking into faster waves but so be it, it's their conscience if they couldn't maintain progress.
This is certainly one for the calendar again next year....oh and and apologies to anyone I splattered with mud as I hared straight through the puddles rather than dodging to the sides :) Date of review: November 11, 2013
In short: Beautiful scenic race In full: I did really enjoy this race, partly because it was mostly flat, but I was a little surprised at the sloped ending. However, what a beautiful run, with great conditions today. There was a bit of a wait around at the start due to a car parked on the route (!) which made us get very cold but once we got started this was faultless and I loved the jelly beans at the water station! Thank you. Date of review: November 10, 2013
In short: Oh how I love this race In full: This is just the best race-fantastic orgnaisation. Runners well organised into waves, brilliant bag drop right by the start so can keep cosy clothes on until the last minute. Third time doing this one and will be back next year Date of review: November 10, 2013
In short: Perfect autumn scenery on a perfect autumn day. In full: Glad the fallen trees got cleared from the path in time for this event, I didn't fancy having to hurdle them! Lovely run along the canal, autumn is the perfect time of year for this stretch, very pretty. Date of review: November 10, 2013
In short: A fabulous although challenging Sunday morning run In full: Slightly disappointed at the delayed start as it was SO VERY cold, when we did get going however it was a lovely run despite the tow paths being very muddy and slippery ( so much so I missed some of the scenery as trying not to fall over / in the canal!). Marshall's were all excellent as usual and good water stations at just the right points. Thanks to all involved ps how about doing this one in the summer??? Date of review: November 10, 2013
In short: Great Sunday morning race In full: The marshals were hugely helpful. There were no hiccups throughout the morning and the run itself was well planned and enjoyable. Date of review: November 10, 2013
In short: A challenging but excellent course! In full: This was my second Half and my first off-road, and it was just the sort of challenge I was after! :) The terrain is tough and there are a few narrow sections, as well as some slippery parts due to the rain over previous days, but this never stopped me maintaining my pace. The route was incredibly scenic - made even better by the weather - and the atmosphere created by other participants, race officials and spectators alike was great. The organisation before, during and after was brilliant, and the marshals on route were first class, offering guidenace and encouragement.
I'd definately recommend this event to runners of all abilities, for the challenge but also for the fun! :) Date of review: November 27, 2012
In full: Given it takes place mostly on a canalside track, it would not be much fun underfoot on a wet miserable day; but on a glorious autumn day with only a few pockets of mud & puddles, it was delightful. Date of review: November 16, 2012
