In short: Splendid. A real favourite. In full: Pretty tough - especially in the muddy conditions this year - but still enjoyed by runners of all standards. Very welcoming, very well organised and marshalled. A nice varied course, half on road, half cross-country. You're not likely to get a PB - but you are likely to enjoy the race. In short: Very well organised in bad weather In full: The organisation and atmosphere make this a special race. The weather this year was a special challenge, with mud everywhere. The rain was a particular problem: because race numbers were distributed at the event, there was nowhere dry to pin numbers, so envelopes soaked through immediately. Also, the bag drop was quite problematic. The volunteers did the best they could, but were hindered by selfish runners who thought they would help themselves to their own bags while treading mud over everyone else's gear. Idiots. In short: Nice run but..... some reservations In full: The actual run is fine, I do like a muddy run through the woods, the Marshalls had my sympathy, no fun standing there in the rain for an hour - Well Done to them.
But, the venue - its fine in good weather to run an event from a field, however, in October it can be cold and damp, and it was, in spades! I ended up changing into my dry clothes in a portaloo, 'cos I dont like driving home wet and muddy - call me a wuss, but there it is. And I never saw the samosas, sulk!
So... Good run, and on a nice day like the Sunday before, 20degrees + and sunny, a great race, but in pouring rain a bit miserable at the end. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Great cross-country course, and the mud made it even better. And awesome marshals. Only slight issue was that we couldn't hear the announcements at the start, but if that's the biggest problem it must have been a great race. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Fun and friendly race in pretty Petts Wood In full: Being brand new to running, and PW 10K my first official race, I was a bit apprehensive beforehand (will I get lost? will I get round? the weather forecast, aaahhh!)
I shouldn't have been so worried. I was spurned on by the amazing scenery, wonderful marshals and petts wood residents who were out in large numbers cheering us on, and the pleasure of running some huge mud puddles/ponds in the woods.
The rain couldn't put a dampner on such a well organised and supported race. It's encouraged me to sign up for my next race. Thanks PWR! Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Samosa-tastic In full: So, you run for 10k, up and down cheeky little hills, along paths, around trails, through woods, little riverlets and across mini lakelets all in the pouring rain passing lines of cheering marshals and supporters who are soaked to the skin, local residents picnicking in their front gardens and then they give you samosa's when you finish. What is there not to enjoy!
Never has a somosa tasted so good before, free bananas, lots of post run water in cups just in case you hadn't sucked enough out of your shirt on the way round and a lovely medal for those who like that sort of thing.
Huge hug to all the PWR runners who manned marshal points and took care of things at the start/finish assisted by a few familiar faces from Bromley parkrun most of whom were still around at the end to cheer in the kast few sodden runners.
The look on the petrol station attendants face when I filled up on the way home, standing in my shorts, socks black with mud and dripping on the shiny, clean, M+S floor was priceless. Are you cold she asked? Nope, I have just run 10k around Petts Wood with lots of warm, happy and friendly people. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: This is a GREAT course even with the mud. In full: This was only my 2nd 10k and it knocked spots of the first. Better organised, the marshals were very friendly and lots of them. The results were displayed even before I had time to get my breath back. WELL DONE Petts Wood. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Even the rain couldn't put a dampener on this gem! In full: Can't believe that I have not done this race before especially as it's on my doorstep. Fantastic race with loads of nice touches and great value for money. Slick organisation and more marshals than you can shake a stick at. Quote of the day was one very encouraging marshal urging us to take the jelly babies 'before they drowned'. Thought Petts Wood Runners coped fantastically with the hideous conditions which made this the perfect race warm up for the cross country season and will definitely be back next year!
