In short: Great race. Shame about the head wind! In full: This was a well organised run that is two laps around a pleasant country park. Cheerleaders were excellent as was the one man band! Good pb potential but strong head wind in the closing couple of km made it a tricky finish Date of review: March 9, 2009
In short: A great race but a little crowded In full: I enjoyed the run again this year but there did seem to be a few too many runners, particulalry as the cross over the railway line on the narrow bridge comes up fairly soon. Perhaps running the course in reverse would open up the field at this narrow point? Date of review: March 9, 2009
In short: Decent race, too many people! In full: This was my first time for what is a very local race to me (10 miles away), so I'm going to try to be very constructive in my review!
Firstly, the good stuff - a nice location, the cheerleaders and one man band were really nice touches and a very nice t-shirt at the end - I didn't think the goodie bags were hidden away - you'd have done well to miss them! However, it wasn't really a goodie bag - just a t-shirt and some flyers for future races. An item of food would have been nice though rather than being charged 50p for a Mars Bar near the finish!
However, the PA announcer (who could barely be heard) made me wonder when he said that this year's entry was a record 800-odd. It's about 200 too many for a course that is so narrow in places! The start was just impossible to get going with the bottleneck - I'd been aiming for a 4.30 first k, and despite running very quickly (for me!), only made 4.47 for the constant jinking in and out of runners. There were also a couple of very tight bends which were tough to spot if you were caught in a crowd. I think the organisers would do well to cap the number of applicants at a lower level.
I'd make the same comments as others about the finish which was poor due to runners queueing to be registered - maybe chip timings are the way to go?
Finally, two portaloos near the start isn't enough, as indicated by the number of men - and women - literally wishing in the wind a few meters away from the start! All in all this is a decent race that would be so much better with fewer runners.
In short: Car parked in the middle of the course!!! In full: Nice race, pleasant, off-road, scenic - good for beginners. Unfortunately let down by organisational problems - i) a car was parked right across the course on a narrow pavement/road crossing ii) people lower down the field were queueing to get over the line, presumably making accurate times impossible iii) selfish slower people starting way up the field making everyone else have to weave through them - though the organisers did appeal to people not to iv) goody bags hidden away. Would probably give it another go next year though. Date of review: March 9, 2009
In short: Good Morning Run around Rushcliffe Park In full: Good event that attracts more and more runners of all abilities from the community! Would be nice if Mr Pike got out of bed 10 mins earliar and did his hair and get dressed properly the scruff lol well organized mate Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Quite flat and good PB potential In full: The race was well organised apart from the finish area which looked a shambles shortly after I finished. The paths were quite narrow and a lot of people started too far forward and too fast so weaving in and out for the first lap was fustrating. The wind was hard going but I did enjoy the race I would probably do it again but this time not start so near the back! Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Windy but seemed Ok once we got going. Varies every year! In full: Same route as last year, slightly different from before. Finish a bit of a shambles, though and the 'goody bags' were hidden away so you had to search during a squall and incereasing wind. Left immediately before I got hypothermia! Thanks to the cheerleaders, though, most uplifting in the gale. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Nice race with a great feel, organisation and CHEER LEADERS!!! In full: I felt like a quarterback at the NFL with all those great cheerleaders, thanks Girls. The one man band was also a British classic, really nice race. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Good opener for a first timer. In full: Good run possible PB if you can get clear of the pack. Well organised, but a bit of a back-up at the finish if you are with the masses. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Very good race with PB potential. In full: OK so it is a bit windy, but it could have been worse today. the sun shone for most of it. There is a good feeling at this race, a real mixture of first timers, fun runners and club runners. A good course, 2 laps and fairly fast apart from when there is a headwind. The last couple of km each lap were tough in the wind but the cheer leaders helped ease that pain. Got a PB and Will be back. Date of review: March 8, 2009
