In short: A great race, very well organised In full: This race is always one of the high spots of my year and each year it gets better organised. The scenery is beautiful and the organisation is faultless but always looking for small improvements. The park in Windsor was an ideal start venue this time round. The course is quite narrow but the "wave" starts mean that it never seems too crowded to run. Given the course and fact that this always seems to be run on the hottest weekend of the year this is never going to be a race for PBs (although my days of PBs are long behind me anyway!!) but if I could only run one event a year this would be the one. In short: Seeing how the other half live!! In full: Lovely. There are a couple of bottlenecks but the course does run along the towpath and this is very clear in the race information. The Windsor start and first few miles make the course even more scenic (and easier parking) than the previous Chalvey start (when I last run it in 2012), and adds the wonderful little church at Boveney to the route.
The route is uplifting for pretty much the full distance, and the total value of the properties you run past must equate to the GDP of a small country! It is also surprising how isolated you can feel in such a populous area.
My only little gripes - which are very little - were getting out of the car park in Marlow (aargh!) and the lack of goody bags. Date of review: July 27, 2014
In short: Magnificent scenery on a hot day In full: Back at this much loved race after a year off with injury. Course's timeless river beauty undiminished. Too hot for PB but a privilege to take part. Many thanks to wonderful organisers and very encouraging marshals Date of review: July 27, 2014
In short: Great race and lovely course In full: Really enjoyed running this race today. Very lovely path along the Thames most all the way, with a few bits in towns, fields, and woods to add variety. Very flat, and nearly all on dirt or grass. The staggered start worked perfectly - we weren't too clustered together or too spread out. Marshals were great too - very friendly and encouraging. Thanks all! Date of review: July 27, 2014
In short: Very enjoyable Half Marathon In full: This is one of the most delightful courses I've ran. The scenery along the route is fabulous and its worth worth the entry money alone. Strongly recommend this run. Date of review: July 14, 2014
In short: Lovely run with great scenery. Not a PB location, but good fun and good organisation. In full: Organisation is great. From the coaches which allow you to park at the finish and they bus you to the start, to the marshalls well spaced throughout the course, to the start and finish, really polished and well thought out. The course is beautiful, but whilst flat, the number of kissing gates, a couple of sets of stairs to cross the river and the road crossings mean that there are better PB courses. Having said that, when the weather is decent, this is a fantastic run and well worth the money. Date of review: July 31, 2013
