In short: A brilliant run, with excellent organisation, route well marked but not for the faint hearted, especially this year.

In short: Wet, Cold and Windy with your own start time???
In full: First time I have done this race and first time I have competed in a RACE that has staggered start times. Can't say I am that keen on them, however it did boost my confidence when I over took more runners then normal, but I would have preferred to start altogether. Very interesting and tough course, not for the faint hearted or road shoes. I love running off road which is why I entered this race and I was not disappointed with the course, however because of the staggered start it felt more like a training run rather then a race! The marshals did an amazing job standing out in the rain and wind for all those hours, well done for all your hard work and support.
I was a little disappointed with the breakfast as you are stuffed if you don't eat/like fried food!! A bit of fruit or cereal would have been nice too and after all that hard running (boy are the hills like mini mountains) a medal or t-shirt I think would have been more deserving then a shot glass, I mean what am I going to do with that other then stick in the back of a cupboard. It is a challenging race and the competitors deserve something a little better for their efforts.
There I’ve said my bit, on the whole a great event and I’m glad I’ve now conquered it but it hasn’t made me want to come back for more, like some other races I’ve done do.

In short: Great Challenge, Hard but loads of fun all rolled into one.
In full: I have only completed around 10 events but this one is one of the best. The weather was awful on race day and the course was extremely muddy (6inches in places) and therefore very dangerous but you were clearly told this before the race. Free full english after the race with water, sweets and biscuits on route.

You do need off road running shoes and cannot make do. I had normal road shoes and in place slid all over the place.

A great race which can be run at race pace or as a fun training session.

Top marks and will be back next year to do the full with correct footwear. (weather permitting)

Half Marathon - Med/Hard - tricky in places
Full Marathon - Hard/Madness - for crazy people

In short: Driving Rain, Long Steep Hills, Very Muddy, what a fab event ;-)
In full: First time for me, and what a great event. Very hard going but very satisfying, the final downhill at mile 24 was a killer on tired legs, but once past that, the downhill finish on the road is a nice way to end the race. I'll be back next year for sure.

In short: Today's weather conditions were a poke in the eye to those who think that there's global warming! I'm still shivering 6 hours after finishing this gruelling marathon
In full: I adore off-road marathons - I find them good for the soul, and for the purist.

My expectations before Steyning were tough muddy conditions, and some rain - both things that I thrive in. However, today was one of the most challenging events that I've ever taken part in, and that's from someone that's done Beachy Head/Three Forts/Snowdonia etc.

The event started badly as I had a heavy fall in the mud which left me hobbling until the pain blended in with all the others! The muddy conditions were tricky, and as the run progressed, the puddles became lakes, and the mud became muddier?!

The biggest problem though was the weather. I seriously underestimated how cold, windy, and wet it was going to be, and got many odd looks as I ventured out in shorts and vest. A couple of hikers looked at me (at 13 miles)incredulously and called out "you're mad" as I struggled up a steep inline being battered by freezing winds and driving rain, and I called back "I know" in my defence!

This monster of an event really appeals to me and I'll treat it with a lot more respect next year. I would like to thank all the marshals who gave up their day, and must have suffered out there for hours. They had nothing but encouragement, and showed concern for my well-being with hypothermia being a real dander as I dug in to conquer this one.

Finally, the post-race breakfast was great, and brought me back to life. The glass tumbler race momento was unusual and a nice change.

Thanks again to all concerned for a memorable day, and I'll be back!

In short: Brilliant organisation, thanks to the hardy marshalls who had a thankless task in extreme conditions. It was a real challenge battling the elements that I have never previously experienced in an event. However I hope to be there next year, as usual

In short: For all you poor poor marshalls out there today...
In full: THANK YOU! Golly, it must have been tough.

I guess it's all been said. I have done this race twice now. Once in glorious winter sunshine where the course and views were beautiful. That time the mud was frozen and very icy underfoot

Today was the complete opposite of that. At times I couldn't see 20 foot from my nose, it was muddy, slippy, slidey, foggy, hail-y, raining, blooming windy. But still fun (at the end)

Thank you to all for not only being superb but also giving me sweets and biscuits to help me round :o)

One for next year

In short: Muddy Rain and Cold bits
In full: Lets say.. Take rain that hurts.. Then add a chill that could make a grown man cry, and then add more mud than is humanly possible to deal with... I froze... I fell over so many times I lost count. I was wetter than a fish.. But the event was well organised..The people was a friendly as you like.. And a breakfast that was worth waiting for. I said all the way round that I wouldn't do it again, but as soon as I passed the line... I would of signed up for more of it.
