In short: Rivers of brown mud instead of greensand... In full: The weather made this normally tough run even tougher - still tried to keep my feetdry for the first few miles and eventually gave up and went through all of the puddles. Note to self: must wear trail shoes in really wet/muddy conditions in future as my road shoes didn't really want to grip much!! Great camaraderie from the runners around the halfway point, which I'm sure gets further away each year! Huge, huge thanks to all the marshals who gave up their Sunday to stand around in the cold and VERY wet conditions to help a large handful of nutters complete an epic race - hats off to you all. And thank you again, Dr Rob, for providing an excuse for us to test ourselves on unrelenting hills. See you next year Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Mud, mud glorious (not!) mud! In full: As with all Trionum events they are over some of the most stunning scenery and very challenging, but what makes them so very special are the people.
First and foremost the marshals who from yesterday I salute, bow down to and am in awe of. All of you cajoled us, asked if we were holding up okay and even a hug or two along the way and lots of great quips and laughs, you kept me going, well that and and sheer bloody mindedness that if I was going to earn my rewards and have a t-shirt with my name on it and a medal and a cap to doff then by golly I was going to make sure I finished!
Rob, I know it took a huge effort to put on the race but as ever you set the standard. A huge thank you to you, your family and band of super troopers who help put and keep the show on the road.
Finally, thank you to the other bedraggled mad fools who were out there with me. For all of you encouraging and smiling. Great team work.
In short: Great race shame about the weather!!! In full: This was the hardest marathon I have ever done, I guess if it was not raining it would have been a little easier but not much. The atmosphere and singing of Jerusalem at the start line made it pretty special! The marshals were amazing (especially the ones who held me and forse-fed me Jelly babies). Hat down to them all they must have been frozen! The route marking was a bit sporadic at times but I think this might have been down to weather conditions and some silly people taking the tape down. Only got lost twice!!! Overall an excellent race, I have to think about if I would do it again as I am in too much pain to even consider it at the moment!!! Well done to all the organisers! In full: Truly horrible conditions. I don't think it stopped raining for a single second. I did this race in 2009 but the conditions yesterday made it an entirely different race. The wind in the open stretches was vicious and I was freezing. I would like to thank the Marshall that gave me a cup of coffee at about 16 miles? I couldn't even hold it I was shivering so much. It gave me the push to carry on. The encouragement from fellow runners was fantastic and the marshals brilliant. Thanks but never again and I mean it this time! In short: Surrey Hills at their best, rain, wet, mud, puddles and lots of fun In full: Another perfect organised event by Rob and his team. Always great running up and down these hills with a bunch of similar minded nutters. Rained constantly but enjoyed this run immensely. Thanks to all the helpers/marshals and thoroughly enjoyed the after race cooked breakfast Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Incredibly hard, great experience, fantastic organisation In full: Brutal conditions made the race even more enjoyable. This was my 189th marathon and I think the marshalls were some of the best I have come across.Camaraderie was great, out and back course so you could see the leaders coming back. All the competitors were encouraging and congratulating each other.Well done everybody, see you next year.Nick Kyritsis Date of review: October 14, 2013
