In short: Brilliant but tough especially with the hot weather In full: I loved this race. It was tough in places but a fantastic atmosphere and brilliant scenery. Will come back next year! Date of review: October 2, 2011
In short: Well organised and good value with the goodie bag and technical T. In full: This is pretty local to me so I am biased, but hey, what a venue! Glorious weather, (too hot really). Challenging, (though not too difficult). Well signposted and marshalled. Terrific run out in fantastic countryside. Date of review: October 2, 2011
In short: Tough Trail - but well worth taking part! In full: The gradual and steep incline at the beginning of the race was particularly gruelling, especially with the cobble stone pathway underfoot. Other than that I found the Trail really challenging and exhilarating. The varied terrain and spectacular views and scenery and the great weather and atmosphere generally, made this my favourite race this year. I'll definetely be back next year! In short: unseasonally hot, but a great run! In full: My first run off road, and also my first half marathon. didn't train too well, but still managed it (just about!) and the 20 quid entry fee seems worthwhile when you consider the fantastic goody bag and the marshalling/organisation. thanks to all the onlookers cheering us on, it helped! In short: Gorgeous scenic race - although extremely tough in the heat In full: Nasty hill at the start sets you up for what's a challenging half marathon - especially in unexpected October heat! Great organisation and friendly marshals :) Date of review: October 1, 2011
In short: Great race...too hot today! In full: This is a great race, and they fixed the bottlenecks from last year...however, they ran out of water again! This time at white coppice, and on a day like today water was very much needed. They fixed this by putting a makeshift water station together at the last minute at the top of the reservoir..they were just arriving as i got there, so some people may have missed out, they really need to make sure they have enough to start with Date of review: October 1, 2011
In short: Wouldn't say thie is the best half marathon in the UK, but its definitely in the top one In full: Love this race, they had a problem last year with bottle necks near the start, so they changed the route and fixed it. They also had an issue with running out of water so they increased them substantially. Very tough race in very warm conditions, especially the first mile and a half, but grin and bear it and you’ll be rewarded with breath taking views of the Horwich countryside.
Also have to say the goody bag is one of the best I’ve ever had, great tech t-shirt with recovery drink, powders, gels, hydrate powders, biscuits and all sorts of things.
One of the highlights of the year Date of review: October 1, 2011
In short: tough, scenic, challenging In full: Excellent run, nice scenery over a variety of terrains. First couple of miles has a steep incline. This run would be a killer if the weather was bad. Date of review: June 14, 2011
