In short: Badly organised for kids races In full: Took my 6 year old neice for her first 'race'. She was really excited about it, even though she was vastly capable of more than 1km but really up for it. The 2km and 1km kids races kept being put back time-wise, should have started at 12.15 but at 12.30 when we were on the start line we were told that it would be another half hour, then another 10 minutes..... Considering these are the racers of the future I wouldn't say this was the best start for them. I wouldn't do this race again with her, I want her experiences to be positive and this was very negative. Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Poor In full: Poor signage at start and around the course. Poor PA at Start, why read out the course when it was in the race pack? Too long a delay, Start area to small for number of runners. Not enough people to remove chips, wife had to remove here own and lost her medal. Date of review: October 5, 2009

In full: A potentionally good race spoiled. The delayed start made the warm up useless. The queue for the so called goody bag made for yet another delay. Poor contents of the goody bag. Trying to leave the car park resulted in yet another delay. Runners were passing the car park exit which meant I waited for 20mins. before getting out. I hope these negative points will be rectified by next year. Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Great Race When It Got Going In full: I'm not going to slate this race at all, we all know the organisation and delays were unacceptable but hopefully it is down to teething problems of putting on such a large event for the first time.
The race itself was a great occasion for the town, being a local it was nice to run through the town centre and take in the atmosphere, especially in the market square. It is a shame that some of the more scenic parts of the town like parks weren't used but this is down to logistics I'm sure. Maybe a half marathon option in the future would be good, looping out to Delapre and back. Overall though, the route was quick, wide roads made passing easy, a great down hill finish helped PB seekers and every marshall had a smile on their faces.
A couple of suggestions;
Water instead of strange energy drinks at stations and better signage (I missed the one in the market when I needed it).
More consistent information from the organisers, I heard that you could enter on the day then not and then it was full which was a little confusing for some friends who missed out by leaving it too late.
In summary, I will definitely be back and hope the organisers iron out the creases and this event goes from strength to strength. It has so much promise and potential.

In short: Some hiccups in organisation spoiled an otherwise good race In full: There were long delays at the start, massive delays after you finished the race and delays trying to exit the car park after the race which got frustrating as I had come a long way for the race. I dread to think what it would have been like had it been raining. There were no car park signs resulting in several tours of Northampton before we found it. Nice route, though I personally don't like doubling back and there were three in this race. Good atmosphere though and once the organisation is sorted out this has the potential to be a great race Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Its a good job the sun shone In full: and that was obviously something not under the control of the event organisers. Like an earlier contributor I returned to my home town for this event. I hope the organisers work on it, the course was good, but everything else was shambolic: No "event parking" signs on arrival - I followed the queue and hoped they weren't Sunday shoppers 40 minute delay to the the start would have been unacceptable if the weather had not been so good Finish funnel was inefficient The goody(?) bag was a waste of the plastic used to produce it, by far the worst I have ever received - but the medal was decent No signs to get you back to the car park, but that wasn't a problem because the time you wasted trying to get back you would have wasted sat in your car cos the car parks were still closed. Again in colder or wetter conditions, which might occur in October the lack of directions back to the car park would have caused stiffness and miserableness. Lots for the organisers to work on, but I hope they persevere and get the race back next year with teething problems ironed out. Date of review: October 4, 2009

In short: Organisation - Cobblers! In full: Oh dear, oh dear. In over 200 races I have rarely come across such shambolic organisation. Delays everywhere. The start (25m), the finish (10m between finishing line and medal), the car park. Why were we not told that the car park was free, even tho there were signs saying £3.50. Indeed, why no arrows to get to the thing in the first place. This was literally a waste of my time. I will NOT be back next year. Date of review: October 4, 2009

In short: Nice try, could be a great race.... In full: All has been said before, start was a shambles as was getting out of the car park.
However, was a great race and will become a part of my annual race calender. Nice to see a race in northampton, I think with some good organisation this could be a fantastic race.
Medal was quite nice as well!!! Date of review: October 4, 2009

In full: The start time could have been managed better. (40min late) The race as a whole after this was well managed. It was my first race I enjoyed the run (there were plenty of hills to negotiate). I will be back next year Date of review: October 4, 2009
