In short: 3 days and 82 miles in the mud ! Fantastic, when can I do it again ! In full: My first multi day back to back ultra and it was a truly satisfying experience.
In terms of the race itself, the course was easy to follow as the Ridgeway is well marked and the countryside is beautiful when it wasn't so wet, windy and misty that you couldn't see it. The mileage seemed a bit long but that may have been the additional miles getting to and from the ridgeway start/finish each day. The checkpoints were a roeal boost and the marshalls were all superstars, especially on day three in the pouring rain and day one when it got dark. Each run was longer than a marathon and the deep mud, icey chalk and hills made then really tough, real XC running!
It was also my first 'sleep over' race and although trepidacious, actually really enjoyed it. Everyone was super frinedly, especially the Cardiff firemen (hi guys) and it was good to meet some of the forum folk and put faces to names !
Thanks to Neil for a fantastic, thoroughly enjoying race, and long weekend ! Date of review: November 8, 2009
