In short: What a cracking race. In full: What is there not to like? It started on time, no rain, muddy beach wasn't too muddy, plenty of signs and marshalls, friendly runners, great goody bag and medal, plenty of parking, and a pb to boot!! An excellent day out (apart from the wind). I'll be back next year as without that wind I reckon I'll be 5 minutes quicker. Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: great run in pompey In full: very hard due to gale force winds which seemed to get worse rather than better as forecast but no rain!great race much improved from last year as Rob has addressed probs and then some. better signage and fantastic marshalling. welcome jelly beans and top notch goody bag! well done to all involved! will be back next year Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: A must do race. In full: You come away wondering how they do it for the money. One of the best medals, a jam packed goody bag and the optional tech tops are miles away from anything else I've seen. And the course is good too. Wind today was impressive. Anyone who's done the Great South will know the last 2 miles are tough - this race turns that stretch into 4 miles and manages to make the wind even stronger. Date of review: February 23, 2014
In short: Great race, exceptional value for money In full: Great race. Lots,of hard work by the race team to keep the race on after the recent bad weather. Always like the challenge of the muddy beach. Nice medal and great goody bag. Will be doing it again next year. Date of review: February 23, 2014
In full: First time for me, love the band Batala being there at the start. Lots of different terrain to run on which puts me out my comfort zone but its all good practice, very windy day but then we are by the coast, great goodie bag, lovely medal and neck warmer, great organisation, I saw the lead man have to run back as he missed a turning but it was clear where the lead bike was, I will be back next year! In short: Great fun In full: Plenty off road with mud even had to paddle in sea near end. Plenty to choose on drink stations loved the Jaffa cakes. First marathon of this type for me really enjoyed the day. Date of review: December 30, 2013
In short: Disorganisation but decent course In full: My main gripe with this race was the start which I thought was a complete disorganised shambles. I waited in the baggage drop off queue for 15 minutes before I was able to drop off my bag, and by the time I got through the crowd waiting at the doors, the race had started! My watch may have been wrong but it was before 9am - I know there were others in the same boat!
Despite this shambles a tough, muddy, wet, but reasonably enjoyable course. Good support along the way.
However, for me the race was ruined at the start - never known such a disorganised pre race, and I have never known the start happen before the scheduled time!
The course is nice though (for December), but I won't be rushing to recommend this race. Sorry! Date of review: December 27, 2013
In short: fantastic marathon In full: There is no moans here great run for What I paid to enter was a bargain. 4th marathon and will return next year to do it all over again. I turned up 1hr before and was quiet no que and was prepared for the run. This was a experience you won't get in a city marathon can't please everyone I guess. Great charity and well maned water stations along the way .
Top work on a great marathon Date of review: December 26, 2013
In short: Enjoyably challenging pre-Christmas run In full: Overall really enjoyed this marathon. The route on You Tube was a very smart touch I think. I enjoyed the route - yes it was muddy but it had been raining very heavily so what did some people expect?? The few bottlenecks were okay with me, didn't cause too much delay. Great water stations with good and plentiful selection of goodies, (loved those jaffa cakes!) Only real negative for me was all the unnecessary litter dropped by runners - total arrogance considering the large colourful bins at each stop. Will be back next year! In short: Excellent coastal route, great marathon to end the year. In full: A flat coastal route, predominately off-road, (about 65% give or take a bit)can get very muddy in places. Friendly participants, encouraging marshalls, and helpful medics. It's not a PB course but it's a fun one. Whether you're a seasoned long distance runner or a newbie I highly recommend it. Goodie bag had a big box of cereal along with few treats. Mulled wine at drinks station gives you an idea of the 'fun' aspect! :-) Date of review: December 24, 2013
