In short: Excellent Race! In full: My first time at the Cambourne 10k - not dissapointed! Excellent organisation from start to finish, great course/support, and very good momento/goody bag at the end. Recommend for all from beginner to vetran. Date of review: April 4, 2011
In short: A very enjoyable and well organised race In full: Everything went like clockwork. The ankle chip timers were great and meant you got an accurate time for the race. The weather was ideal, sunny with a cooling breeze. Over 1000 runners but no hassle anywhere. Excellently organised with a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. Lots of space and a lovely HQ setting with small lakes dotted around. They even had a portable men's urinal delivered so that the women did not have to wait too long for the loos! The course itself is nearly all over parkland paths. There are some fairly stiff uphill bits but nothing serious. Definitely a date for my diary in 2012. Date of review: April 3, 2011
In short: Ideal for runners of all abilities In full: I had heard good things about the Cambridge Cambourne 10k, so I thought it would be a good event to start with (being fairly new to racing). Being from Cambs, I thought it would be as flat as a pancake... certainly proved wrong after the first 2km!
Anyhow, as an experience, I'll start from the beginning...
The location is very easy to find and there was ample parking. Reading various reviews, lack of toilets seems to be a recurring issue at all running events, and here there were some rather lengthy queues before the start of the race. Luckily I had been before I arrived!
The pens at the start worked well - I was in the 40-45min section, and there was no problems with people in the way/trying to pass with difficulty. As for the course, it was fairly demanding, especially with the hills/windy conditions, but not demoralisingly so.. Exactly what you want for a cross country. PB seekers may struggle slightly, but I wasn't too worried about that!
The course was marshalled extremely well, and there was a staggering amount of support along the way. Water handed out in bottles (much better than plastic cups).
It was a real buzz to run down the last 200m with the crowd support and the lady speaking over the tannoy (as well as my youngest sister screaming at me to run faster!)... All of this made you want to sprint finish!
After crossing the finish line, you were handed bottle of water and then you received a nice mug and medal, as well as a cereal bar.
All in all, a very well organised event suitable for all runners of any ability. I'll be back next year for sure! Date of review: April 12, 2010
In short: Left me buzzing all day In full: The wind was biting when we left the business park but after the fist km I'd forgotten about being cold. Beautiful route, my first race off the road and I am a complete convert. Excellent marshalls, really well organised race with personal touch at the finish as the PA mentioned runners by name and the spectators we're generous with applause. Overall, a really excellent experience. I agree about the toilets though; one runner near me must have thought the queue was too long because he veered off into the trees and was rummaging in his shorts... luckily we ran past before the Big Reveal :) Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Superb atmosphere and great fun! In full: Wonderful! Can't fault the atmosphere, the organisation and the super marshals. Has to be one of the friendliest races I've ever taken part in. Scores top marks for beginner friendliness, but there's something for everyone.
The course is challenging, being off road and undulating. Found the windy final mile very hard work. I managed a PB, but only because my previous 10k time was very soft. Still, it's a pretty course with ample signage and the friendly marshals were great. Loved coming into the finish and my orange shoes getting a special mention by the PA lady.
Well done to the organisers - you've created something very special! Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Great run! In full: Lovely race: close to home, 11am start, plenty of parking spaces, activites for whole family, well marked and marshalled course, nice medal&mug in the end. Only minus was the number of toilet cubicles - i haven't been to a race yet that would have enough! Date of review: April 11, 2010
