In short: Enjoyed it for my first trail half marathon!
In full: Organisers did well considering it was the first time the event ran. Registration was easy enough and my supporter enjoyed the refreshments. Good course, very narrow at parts but that kept me going as I didnt want to hold people up! I would definately do this race again!

In short: more like cross country race
In full: a tough half, all off road. Lots of uneven ground and tree roots that I tripped and fell on due to tired legs on 2nd loop. Lots of low branches that could have been cut down by organisers as it was a short root to cover (6.1 miles). Nearly fell on several occasions trying to avoid them. Caught my hair in them twice. However I like the challenge of off road and think of it as good training, so I would recommend it. I must paise the organisers for a swift presentation at the end. I am so used to waiting ages for the last runner to come in that this was a welcome change. Thanks.

In short: Very scenic, but poorly organised and expensive
In full: The Trail Half Marathon is great for scenery but:
1 - no mile markers (i have a Garmin so not too bad but without this you'd be lost)
2 - no good bag (this is a shame)
3 - not enough people on the drink stations
4 - Race was at least 13.3m rather than 13.1m

This is my sixth half marathon this year and the smaller ones were far more generous than this

In full: Finished race in 1:50 which was fine as just treated it as a training run which was good idea as no pb's on this course. Annoying in places where it was single file and kept getting smacked in face by branches. What happened to the 1 large loop and 2 small loops? It was just 2 large loops and not accurate at all, my garmin made it 13.5 miles! I expect for a entry fee that steep a accurate course at least. My partner cycled over to see me finish and was told off by one of the organisers about cycling in the grounds (although he was no where near the course) - not very friendly and not a way to encourage runners back!

In short: challenging run on some wacky surfaces
In full: Having run a fair few half's on road I found this tough. There was some lovely scenery, but running through forest paths you seemed to miss a lot. The terrain was tough and avoiding tripping and falling over was a challenge in parts.

positives lovely area and challenging run.Good to have sports drinks on one of the stands

negatives I did not feel it was that easy to find. There were not enough people giving out water, had to stop while they poured. No goody bag

In short: I agree with the other reviews here - it's mainly off road and there are a few hills just in one section of the loop, so it's more challenging for beginners and those aiming for a pb. But beautiful scenery and a very friendly atmosphere.

In short: A bit tricky but good fun
In full: I found this run a bit harder than I bargained for, bt was good fun all the same. This clearly was a trail run as advertised and may have caught a few of us off guard, as this was different from a run on tarmac.
The organisation was pretty good, but could be improved for future runs.

In short: Painful but lovely scenery when you could see it
In full: The scenery was lovely when you could see it, however at times the trees where so low that you had to duck to avoid being hurt (I did notice another runner with a face covered in blood). The wooden sections where nice. However there where no mile markers so the some sections seemed to go on forever. The water stations broke the race up, however they could have done with more people on these stations and more marshals. The marshals that where there provided the encouragement and directions that where needed - well done. Overall a challenging race - several people complained about their time. Next time could we have more than a medal, and someone handing out water at the end of the race too?

In short: It would have been nice to have had mile markers and more marshalls on the water stations
In full: I did feel the entry fee was a bit steep as there were no goodie bags at the finish

In short: A scenic race- shame about the organisation!
In full: As this was a first race for the'Black Sheep' organisers I won't be too harsh but however.... mile markers would have been welcome, it would have broken up the race and the woodland stretches wouldn't have been so long. Also, more marshalls would have been a good idea, I was one of three who fell in the woodland area where it was full of tree roots and it was at least two miles to the next marshall from where I fell. I saw another guy in a very bad way sat at the side of the path and St Johns ambulance were at least a 20 min walk away from him (maybe a mountain bike for them would have been good). As one of the runners at the back of the pack I was fairly lonely as most of the runners were fast club runners, so the course seemed really long but the scenery was lovely, despite my fall! I agree with one of the comments below that a goody bag would have been nice with the medal. However, for a first time race overall it was good. Sadly I probably wouldn't run it again and would opt for another race. Thanks to the scouts with the bacon butties at the end, that was great, and glad to see they stayed until all the runners had finished.
