In short: Poor organisation this year
In full: I ran the Abbey Dash last year, and really enjoyed it. this year, not so much. The Woodhouse Lane car park, wasn't open when we got there (it was advertised that it would be), and it wasn't free either. I got to the start late, completely my fault, but starting back in the purple pen was awful. Dodging people for about 7kms wasn't much fun. I did get a t-shirt, but a lot of people who i knew did the race didn't get one. Also, after i'd queued for 10 minutes to get my t-shirt, i had no idea where to put my chip. The finish was so badly organised this year, which is a real shame.

In short: Good race, poor organisation
In full: We all know the Abbey Dash course, pretty flat, but of undulation at the Abbey end and up the ramp and up the Headrow at the end. It's a nice flat course and a significant road to run down if you live in Leeds and especially the Aireborough area. But I have to say that the organisation left a lot to be desired, from the off the race info stated that Wooshouse Lane Multi Storey car park would be open early morning, but on passing I saw that it wasn't, OK for me as I'm local and wasn't planning on parking there anyway but would imagine that people from out of town might have been thrown by it. Arrived at the start, and I'm in the 35 min start pen apparently, why I don't know as I'd put my estimated finish time down as 48 mins. Race itself was OK, granted there are lots of people on the course but I didn't think it was overly congested, fairly straight wide roads, even the turnaround was OK. Only bit of congestion was at the top of the ramp at the bottom of the Headrow which put the kybosh on any plans for a storming finish. Finish itself was a shambles, appeared to be staffed by six people. No announcements to remove chips (this is the only race I've done in the last year to still use them) but no apparent cause for the congestion other than pure volume of people trying to get out. A good race for a good cause but does need sorting out, maybe move the distribution of tshirts and drinks out up to millenium square as per the Tomlinson 10K

In short: A shambles at the end
In full: Why oh why do folk who are going to walk enter the 55 minute start pens. Within the first kilometre runners were dodging these folk causing chaos.
On complaining on completion ( after 10 minutes waiting in the cold!) about the lack of t-shirts I was informed that this was due to some competitors taking two - this beggars belief!!!!!
However the race was advertised as having 8000 competitors and according to the results 7379 completed , where did the rest go ????
Whilst some runners may? have taken more than their allocated number , the discrepancy leads to other conclusions?
As a previous correspondent states , a medal would be more welcome or as well as.
The finishing area definately requires a coat of looking at prior to next year. Many other large participant races have got this aspect cracked.

In full: Not completely flat but still a great PB course. Less runners would be good as someone else said, or better organisation of the pens - some people in the sub 35min pen were not going at that speed!

In short: Great day out. Fantastic atmosphere
In full: Left it too late to sign up for this race last year, so today was I really looking forward to it. Previous PB, York, 37:49. Today 36:19 and I came 14th in my category - vet45 - so I am extremely happy. Didn't experience the organisational probs at the end cos I was having a pint in the bier keller up the road. Defo back next year to break 35 if poss. Fewer runners would be better than more. Just saying...

In short: Smashed my PB so I'm well happy!
In full: I didn't experience the poor organisation issues. Took a short cut and climbed over the barrier at the start in order to get into the Sub 45 minute pen so I was lucky in that there was no congestion. Looking at the other comments, it sounds like it wasn't much fun for people over 55 mins. Running out of T-Shirts is poor. I think 8,000 Runners is too many for such a small finish area. I will come back though as it is a perfect PB course.

In short: I had a good run but organisation is dreadful
In full: To run out of t shirts is simply not good enough, they know how many people are likely to run so need to sort this out.

I ran a PB but could have done better on the turn into the home straight it was very congested so hard to get speed up when I wanted.

The end organisation was an omnishambles too many cold people waiting too long to get out of pens. I know I am a bit precious perhaps but I would prefer a medal to yet anothe tshirt I will never wear, at least I got one though.

In short: Too many runners - Poor organization at the end
In full: Disappointed with this race although worth doing as had a cracking weekend in Leeds. Race not pancake flat & my time suffered because of it. Finish very congested and unable to get correct size of Tshirt. As we were all shuffling and huddling cold and tired wondering how to get out/get a bottle of water/where to hand chips in the announcer declared that next year there would be even more runners!!

In short: Good race, poor organisation
In full: Second time doing abbey dash, really enjoyed race but organisation at the starting pens is poor (no stewards - wrong people into wrong pens) finish was even poorer, area is not big enough for the amount of runners leading to a long queue to get out of the finish area, runners getting very cold. Runners finishing after a chip time of 57 mins didnt get a t shirt.considerable improvement needed for next year!!
