In short: Brilliant In full: Second year for me in the Ashby 20 and for me this is the best organised and supported race I've run in. Excellent organisation makes the race run really smoothly. The support around the course is excellent but what makes this event are the marshals and volunteers at the water stations. Incredible encouragement, friendly and supportive. I didn't think it could be improved from last year but having closed roads made this a brilliant event. When you throw in a hoody, a gorilla and a cheese cob I don't think it can be bettered. Well done Ivanhoe Runners - you should be very proud of your race Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: Great well organised race In full: First time doing this race and can't recommend it highly enough - good scenic course with enough hills to keep it interesting, great marshals, good local support, fantastic howdy and goody bag at the end. Brilliant - a big thumbs-up to the organisers Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: Love this race, a great way to start the season In full: This is a great race. The course has some cheeky climbs but nothing serious, a fun and fair course to race. I first raced this as a part of my build up for a spring marathon but now I'd enter it on it's own merits. Well organised and friendly with a cheese cob and hoody at the finish. In short: Love this race, love the hoodie even more! In full: The marshalling at this race is excellent- everyone was friendly and very supportive. The water stations had a huge choice of refreshments-gels, chocolate, jelly babies as well as both bottled water, water in cups and wet sponges. The course is tough and I would recommend anyone new to this distance to try an easier, flatter course first (but definitely do this one too!). The hoodie you get after completing the race is well worth the pain of the hills. Will definitely be back next year. Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: Awesome race organisation, fantastic support & aid stations - highly recommended!! In full: I can not praise this race enough - my first Ashby 20 and although a challenging route it was picturesque, well manned with supportive marshals at regular intervals as well as good support from spectators, many well manned aid stations with plentiful amounts of water, gels, jelly babies etc, generous goody bag including a quality hoodie. Overall it's fair to say not only did they have all the goods but great organisation and support from pre-race information to race finish. If you're looking for a 20 mile race this is well worth entering!! Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: A race to return to again and again In full: My first time and I can see why the Ashby 20 sells out and runners return year after year. The race was well organised, in the run up and on the day. The support on the course was great and though I would prefer not to do two loops of the same course it didn't feel bad as the countryside distracts you. I was expecting much worse hills from reading previous reviews but the course is more slightly undulating than hilly. The weather was perfect this year which added to a great day. There was a positive atmosphere all around. I would recommend to anyone, the hoody at the end is a great race memento and the cheese cob was delicious! Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: Quite simply a great race In full: This is the best pre seeing marathon warm up race. Brilliantly organised, loads of info in the pre race booklet. Great two lap course which allows for little rest due to its undulating nature and a great finish on the Bath Grounds in the middle of Ashby. The post race cheese cob and hoodie make every step worthwhile. This is the second year I have done this race and there will be many more to come. Date of review: March 23, 2015
In short: Yesterday I said never again... In full: I was an Ashby virgin! Furthest race distance I'd done before was half marathons. Peer pressured into this one, and whilst it's a tough course, for a novice like me it is very doable. They say a good training run for spring marathons like London etc. But it's not flat. The support is great and water stations are well placed. If you don't want to run a marathon, but want more of a challenge than a half. This is it!!
