In short: Great support, nice medal and if you finish quick enough you can get a small t-shirt !! In full: I like Bath, two laps, great crowd, good pre-race atmosphere, good mix of runners, i even saw Michael Jackson !!! A few problems queing at the start, but there were 20,000+ runners and supports milling around, so its to be expected, no one died !!! The Ipod thing, who cares ? I am not part of the IPOD POLICE and I dont want to be ! Just enjoy your running and leave everyone else to their business. Oh and I got PB, so HAPPY DAYS !! Date of review: March 15, 2010
In short: Great crowds, and good, fast, pb getting course but let down by the organisation at the finish In full: My first Bath Half marathon and one which i thoroughly enjoyed (probably because i knocked 19 minutes off my pb!). The crowds throughout were fantastic and really spurred everyone on, and the course was definately quick. My only complaint was the lack of organisation at the end when you were funneled very slowly back into the village, getting colder and colder. Those who moaned about being freezing cold at the start need to get a bit of a reality check, it's early March in Britain for gawds sake, what did you expect!! Go to a charity shop, buy a jumper for 50p then ditch it at the start! Bit of a no brainer really!! Oh, and my Garmin also registered 13.25 miles! Date of review: March 15, 2010
In full: Only my second half marathon. It went well for me, although the number of runners seemed too high for Bath's streets, and I spent the first mile trying to overtake seemingly endless numbers of slower runners, despite starting in the pen allotted to my standard. The worst part was the post-race organisation. I managed to reclaim my bags withn ten minutes, but my daughter had to queue in the freezing cold for over half and hour to get hers back, and others had even longer waits - with the foil sheets having run out. There weren't enough helpers giving out the bags, which is poor considering the cost of the entry fee. On the plus side, the course is quick, relatively scenic, although not taking in the best bits of the city, and the toilet facilities plentiful. I'll probably do it again next year, but I think there are better races, and the event relies on the cachet of being one of the biggest races in the south west. Date of review: March 13, 2010
In short: Better than last year, but crowded, numerous narrow sections and miserable end funnel In full: Overall better organised than before, plenty of loos and plenty of drinks. Duck boards in the Mem a good idea. However the race was crowded, the mass was reduced to walking pace at numerous points where the road narrowed to a single lane - frustrating when you've got a bit of momentum. While that wont have upset the elites, its a real drag for the masses. A staggered start time would probably have relieved the congession.
In short: Crowded, pleasant, but too crowded a circuit In full: 15,000 running was promoted, 11,000 ran and it seemed crowded at points. The end was marred by bottleneck after the race, imagine if it had been wet. I shall look elsewhere for 2011
