In short: Testing course, a worthy challenge In full: Enjoyed it, set a pb by about 17 minutes but it was hard work into the wind in places. Almost came to a stop on one of the hills when the wind blew hard! There were lots of marshalls, who gave good support to the runners and police at the larger road junctions to direct the traffic. Would definitely put this one on the list of do again. Date of review: December 3, 2006

In short: 3 laps was a bit monotonous. Could it have been a one lap run in the countyside. The changing facilities were excellent. Date of review: December 3, 2006

In short: "Gone With The Wind!" Luton is a tough marathon mentally, but with the strong wind (mainly in our faces) and which seemed to regain it's strength for the final lap left me treading water in the last few miles! In full: Wow! That was hard work! I do love Luton as an event but it is a testing course even on a benign day. So when winds of 60mph and torrential rain descended on Luton early this morning, I feared the worst. Although the weather had calmed by race time, there were still strong gusts especially on the exposed parts of the course.
Thanks to expert organisation, clear signage, and an abundance of enthusiastic marshals makes this an event that I keep returning to, and many others are voting with their feet as the marathon was full well in advance.
Although Luton has some rough edges, it is also surrounded by an attractive rural landscape and some pleasant villages - a good mixture of course - which kept things interesting.
A lovely bespoke medal, free quality t-shirt, and goodie bag makes this event good value, and hot drinks and showers to bring life back to the embattled body afterwards along with v. efficient baggage finished a good day off smoothly.

In short: A fine alternative to Abingdon et al for a late year M In full: Very friendly, great marshalling; a good and mostly rural, scenic course. The 3 lap template works extremely well if you are marathon fit though I doubt there's pb potential due to the degree of hill climbing. Great fun. Date of review: December 15, 2005
