In short: A good day out, saw some horses thanks to the people clapping along the way, a real boost. In full: I managed to strain my calfs 5 weeks ago so have been unable to train since then but decided to go for it any way and am really pleased I did, it was a really well run event. I had convinced myself that it was going to be dead flat all the way round (not sure why now) but there were a few hills but nothing to crazy. This is only my second race and it has spurred me on to enter more and keep on training. Thanks to all those who made it possible. Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: Good as ever but a couple of glitches this year In full: I have done this race several times and would always recommend it. However, a few things this year were not quite right: 1 I understand completely the change of start times, but to continue to recommend train as the way to get to the race when it's not possible to get to New Milton from London before 10am is slightly silly. 2 I've never known the race start late before. It sounded as if the half starting late was a knock-on from the full, but why? What happened? 3 The fiasco over t-shirt postage. I was one of those who had to pay to collect my t-shirt.
This is a lovely race which is well-organised, with friendly marshalls, superb atmosphere, great crowd support and so on and I hope it will be back to its usual wonderfulness next year. Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: Fab race with great supporters and gorgeous views In full: First half marathon and did this race because i love the area. I didnt expect the number of hills but was generally very impressed with the entire route. Marshals were A*, drink/sponge stations were well placed but could have done with a little more on the open parts of the course (in my humble opinion).
Overall i was very impressed with the supporting crowds in the race and the organisation at the start was well coordinated and everyone was informed. I would definitely do this race again but in my preparation put in more hill work. Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: Beautiful course – wonderful support In full: A really great race, well organised and with wonderful support right round the course. Not as hilly as I had feared, but I do train in Winchester, so I guess it's all relative. Managed a big PB (well it was my first half marathon!) and will definitely be back next year to try and top it. Thanks to all involved. Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: Fantastic course - spoilt by traffic In full: My first time over this course - I was expecting some severe hills, but they never came along! There was plenty of water, plenty of sponges (excellent idea), plenty of friendly support and lovely scenery. Sadly there were also plenty of morons in vehicles, one of whom pulled out onto the course, completely blocking it for a good 15s causing me to stop. Most of the motorists I saw were friendly and supportive, however. I'm looking forward to next year's race already Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: Beautiful scenery and a surprisingly fast course In full: Pros: scenery, atmosphere, lots of water stations (and sponges), chip timing, organisation, opportunity to see marathon winner cross the line, fast course, very accurate mile markers, so many marshalls, good medal, support on course.
Cons: "official" car park was full when we arrived, no goody bag at the end (not even a banana / cereal bar!), traffic on course (surely they'd be better off closing the roads?). Date of review: September 17, 2007
In short: A fantastic race , well marshalled with beautiful scenery In full: Superb race indeed , excellent course throught the fantastic New Forest , plenty of water and sponges . Very hilly but great fun and very nearly a Pb for me.
In short: Spoilt by trafffic from the 4thmile... In full: why cant they sort the traffic out for this race. Everything else is good, but the traffic spoils the whole event. Traffic management needs looking at before I do this again. - no goodie bag either... Date of review: September 16, 2007
In short: very enjoyable day. I'll be back! In full: My first half marathon. well organised and very friendly marshalls and spectators. Only gripe was that I couldn't hear the announcer. Therefore missed the free BBQ. (oh, and had to wait 20 minutes for the toilet). I will definitely be back next year. Date of review: September 16, 2007
