In short: sorry but its an accident waiting to happen. In full: Somehow lost the 30k way and ended up on the 40k - not a big prob but people were getting lost everywhere. often ended up running alone with no markers - they do provide a map but I can't see print without glasses and others said it was not easy to follow. Very busy roads to cross and numerous near misses - so bad that my boyfriend waited at one crossing near the end to help slow traffic after he finished he was so worried.
it is a lovely run and if you do it with someone else so you're not alone, be aware that there are no marshalls, take it slowly and enjoy it as a day out then its fine - but us runners don't so my opinion is that its unsafe as it is at the moment. Date of review: August 12, 2008
In short: my knees hurt! In full: First marathon for me and what a tough event to pick, saying that the organisation was great, everyone was friendly and the relaxed environment made for a trouble free run. I have only one small complaint.......I've just finished the 27miles measured by my garmin, my ankles, knees and hips are so so sore and on receiving my medal its missing the one vital word, MARATHON!!!! I think this ommision is a sure reason to run the distance again, it's all about the medals!!!! Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Variety of scenery but too much road for a trail marathon In full: Done the marathon this year improved on the direction signs this year compared with the 30 km last year. A few distance signs would be helpful and perhaps a little less road surface, still enjoyed the race and look forward to next year. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Pleased that i was with past participants In full: Overall a great race, i did the full 42k and found it quite challenging, but mainly due to my lack of long training runs. My ankles feel as though someone has hit them with a sledgehammer and i do ache a fair bit, i got lost??? a couple of times but mainly due to me not looking where i was going and losing concentration towards the end. Enloyed the friendly marshalls and other runners. well done to all whatever distance you decided to go for. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Once again an enjoyable and interesting race. In full: Did the 20k. No problems with signposts, very well-marked for a mixed terrain race, not sure how much more people expect! Organisation fine, there was a proper finish line this year. Could do with a couple of 'caution runners' signs in the town centre on a busy summmer Sunday but that's a very minor point. Good race, thanks to the organisers. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Very laid back run rather than a race which makes it an ideal event to enjoy running. r In full: I did the 30k trail run again this year and was a definate advantage knowing the route although I had no problems with signs for the route. The terrain is variedand quite draining and is a bit surreal running through the town/shoppers towards the finiah. I love this event as it reminds me why I love running so much :-) Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Beautiful scenic event. Quite a challenging route. In full: Did the 30K. A tour round the outside of Salisbury, has everything: roadwork, rutted tracks, muddy tracks, fields and long hills. Route finding challenging, I got lost twice, and someone had removed the signage in places at the end. Lovely atmosphere. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Well organised, friendly race. In full: Well organised, small (but growing) friendly race in a beautiful part of the country.
The drinks stations were great with nice touches and friendly volunteers. The route was extremely well marked until the last mile (through the city centre)when some local hoodlum had obviously removed some of the signs.
Although it was a very attractive route through a couple of grand estates and attractive villages there was a great deal of running on tarmac considering it was a "trail race". That's the only reason I wouldn't do it again.
But thanks very much to the organisers for putting together a really good event (the marathon) which was a pleasure to take part in. Date of review: August 11, 2008
