In short: Well organised, friendly race. In full: Well organised, small (but growing) friendly race in a beautiful part of the country.
The drinks stations were great with nice touches and friendly volunteers. The route was extremely well marked until the last mile (through the city centre)when some local hoodlum had obviously removed some of the signs.
Although it was a very attractive route through a couple of grand estates and attractive villages there was a great deal of running on tarmac considering it was a "trail race". That's the only reason I wouldn't do it again.
But thanks very much to the organisers for putting together a really good event (the marathon) which was a pleasure to take part in. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Extremely tough but well worth the pain. In full: Very enjoyable mixed terrain marathon that is about a mile longer than the 'proper' marathon distance. Lovely scenery, frequent checkpoints that provide everything you require. The hills are certainly challenging but it is fairly flat for the last 7 miles or so. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Too much road for a trail race. In full: On the whole the event was well organised but there were a few issues with signage towards the end in the city centre part and a big gap in drinks stations on the 42k route before the 15 mile mark. Shouldn't be advertised as a trail race! Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Enjoyed the Run In full: Completed the 20k which was slightly longer on my garmin at 13.80miles. Last 2 miles poor signage which was a shame as 2 of us Motcombe runners ran together and enjoyed the course until then. Pity you only recieved a just a medal for a run that far. Thank you to all the marshalls and for the jelly babies. If you have tried this one you should.Hope they raised alot of money. Date of review: August 11, 2008
In short: Very well organised event for all abilities around some very scenic parts of Salisbury In full: Very well organised, relaxed and friendly event. Very good value for money too. Sign posting was very good and didn't need to refer to the instructions that had been provided. Route was really scenic over multi-terrain. Only very minor complaint would be that there was perhaps a bit too much tarmac, but not the end of the world really. Marshalls and helpers were fantastic - everyone of them happy and supportive which was great. Plenty of water stations too. Enjoyed this race and was a great training run for my Autumn marathon. Would do it again in preperation for another marathon. Thank you for a great day out and well done to Salisbury Firestation and all involved for maing it so enjoyable. Date of review: August 10, 2008
In short: excellent event In full: My third year in a row doing the 54321 - I keep coming back and the organisation gets better and better each year. A tremendous effort goes into the excellent signposting - I didn't even open my pages of directions this year. Friendly and frequent water stations. This run comes highly recommended! In short: It was lovely and great for training but we got lost In full: 30k route- I know we were given maps, but it wasnt an orienteering event, it was a trail run. Very well signposted throughout until we were about 3 miles to the end when it all went wrong, many of us got lost and had to guess our way back. It was rather frustrating. But on the other side I did love this race as it was beautiful, lovely fresh weather for August and as I said, lovely lovely scenery. Now I know the course, I'll come back next year Date of review: August 10, 2008
In short: This is the fourth time I have run this off road marathon and it was as good as the first. In full: I love this run. Tough in places but well organised and friendly. The scenary and countryside is brilliant - makes you want to come back for me and to see Salisbury without your running shoes on!!! Date of review: August 10, 2008
