In short: Eastbourne - the Sunshine Coast? Or more accurately, Windy City...! In full: This was my first ever half marathon - you don't ever get to run such a memorable race in the town you grew up in. So I'm slightly biased... but I had a fantastic day and was pleased with my respectable time, gained despite the wind (not the organisers' fault obviously) and the hill from hell which I only ever used to see from the comfort of my parents' car as they drove me home from school! Running up it was a different story.
So yes, I loved the course, loved the number of encouraging marshalls, loved the band at the Natural Fitness Centre - and the only thing I didn't love was the lack of mile markers. We had 1, 2, 5, 7 and 11 - and none inbetween, making it impossible to pace yourself if you're a relative beginner.
BUT - apart from that, I loved it and would definitely do it again.
In short: Great race - if it was without the intense wind! In full: Like everyone - the steep section of the hill at mile 3 was quite unexpected! A great race good organisation and lots of friendly support. But......... I have never run in wind that strong and hope to never do it again! Date of review: February 26, 2006
In short: Windy!! In full: Take away the very strong wind and this race is a winner. Very well organised and on a stiller day, definitely pb potential. However, to describe the incline after 2 miles as 'steady' is a touch misleading! Not as bad as 'that' hill in Crowborough but longer.
In short: What goes up must come down fortunately! In full: Yes, it was very cold - hardly anyone's fault and that hill was unexpected. Intend to do it again next year. Amazing how Eastbourne iteself has developed in the last 10 - 20 years. Loved Sovereign Harbour despite the wall of wind! Date of review: February 26, 2006
