In short: 1st half marathon and a definite convert. I'll be signing up again for next year In full: For a novice to running half marathons the organisation and atmosphere were first class. At the start the walkers at the front held fellow participants up unnecessarily. A bit of consideration for others would have been nice. Thanks to the Diabetes UK volunteers, the post race massage meant I could walk again Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Fantastic, great atmosphere but need to sort out the carnage caused by walkers. In full: I am by no means a fast runner but I found my self held up a lot yesterday by walkers & v. slow runners. Why can't people be honest about their potential & start in the right paced groups? Would be better for all, besides it can't be much fun to be passed all the time. Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Apparent that most of the participants could not read as they had ignored the pace/mile markers at the start. Should be renamed Great North Fun Run/Walk. In full: Absolutely awful organisation of start.
Firstly I was deafened by the local DJ and secondly when we set off it soon became apparent that most of the participants could not read as they had ignored the pace/mile markers at the start.
My girlfriend and I never did more than Fartlek as a result before giving up around mile 8 and jogging with the rest... Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Why can't they sort out the start -there are still too many slower runners at the start making it impossible to achieve a quick getaway Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Just to say you have done it is enough, not a great one for the familes as it takes as takes two hours to get from the start to the finish on the Metro In full: No chance of a PB, they have to do something about the walkers, I know they are intitled to walk but why in the middle of the road.Impossible to get out of South Shields after the finish. A little disappointed overall but after the Tyne Bridge a little boring until you get to the finish when the crowd pull you through. Unbelivable support from the crowd offering water, sweets etc. Done it once thats enough. Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Had a great day, with some good bands on the route. I'm no speedster but the walkers and slower runners should position themselves better. In full: All in all a good day, but the slower runners and walkers spoiled things a bit by positioning themselves near the front. I gave up trying to get a decent time for my ability level as I had to keep checking my stride and dodging walkers. A bit expensive if you're coming from the South but worth it to participate in a great event. Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Better signage for water stations - instead of tripping over everyone. Also better transport for supporters as my family were very disappointed that they did not reach the finish to see me!! Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: Fantastic crowd, Fantastic runners, Fantastic run In full: Even though it took ages to get going because of the high volume of runners, You have to respect them all and be amazed at the amount of money raised for different charities. Date of review: September 27, 2004

In short: to many people dodging walkers most of the time In full: could do with better organising of bagage buses and sorting out the start runners at the front walkers near the back, took 12 minutes to cross start line and another 2 minutes hold up 200 metres past the start.
