In short: Done 3 times, too expensive to do again In full: At £30 plus £3 parking (minimum), this is just too costly for a 10 miler. Good quality T-shirt but not technical, solid medal & lucozade abviously a major sponsor, but the goody bag doesn't justify the price. Yes, I have pbs for the last three years & at last was awarded a first wave entry so I had a free run. But while newcomers & fundraisers will always enjoy this, for a serious, but not elite, runner like me, it doesn't push the right buttons. Sorry. Date of review: November 3, 2007

In short: It's my local, well organised and a pleasure to run! In full: Not a traffic frinedly course so if your coming to Portsmouth better off on the train. Event is well organised and it seems the runners a split quite well moving the slower ones to the thrid and final running group. If you gonna walk keep left please. In short: Wet, Windy. But WILD!! In full: I enjoyed this, my very first Great Run, and it was fabulous! Great support and atmosphere created by the locals really helped me to carry on, despite the awful weather, for the second year running. Admittedly the “Professional” Car Parking on the common left a lot to be desired. I hope it can all be ironed out for next years race, as I will definitely be doing it again. Other than that a great experience.
Despite all the problems created, for Portsmouth, in staging such a mass participation event. I cannot understand why anybody could suggest that it should be moved to another venue. Where else, on the South Coast can you enjoy a 10-mile run with so many wonderful landmarks (many steeped in history), HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, Dockyard, D-day Museum, Royal Marine’s Barracks come to mind. This is “The” Great South Run after all. There is also the magnificent Spinnaker Tower to delight in too.
This being the third biggest run in the Great Run series, it is fully justified in being held here. It’s just a shame that it does not get the same BBC coverage as the FLM and the GNR.

In short: Great race & atmosphere, appalling weather but even that didn’t spoil the event In full: My first major event and ten miler so a PB at 1:21. A bit cramped in places but will definitely do this again next year and aim for 1:15 Date of review: November 2, 2007

In short: Rained a little on my parade. In full: 3rd year on the bounce for me doing this race, and I came to it off the back of a bad injury so no great time from me as totally expected but I still wanted to take part in it and get that big chunky medal at the end.
I'm hoping if I do it again next year that we get a break from the gales that have hit us hard on the latter part of the run for the past 2 years. This year was just torture!
I enjoy this run as it's so darn fast, and know any PB I hit will potentially be the fastest I can do if I achieve it on this course. One question; I had an A on my number but had no indication as to what it was for, does anyone know? Value is a little sticking point - not sure the relatively large fee is really worth it albeit the cost to run it must be large. I stayed in Southsea on the Saturday night with resident friends so the traffic was no issue as I held off leaving till the evening. Hopefully next year or the one after that will herald great conditions and a spanking new PB. Date of review: November 2, 2007

In short: First GSR, First 10 mile race In full: Excellent experience. Thanks to the people of Portsmouth who stood for hours in the pouring rain to cheer on total strangers ! Shame about the idiot spectators who INSISTED on crossing the road at all points of the course during the race meaning WE had to avoid THEM. Where were the marshalls ? Where was the pedestrian's common sense ? Spectators were edging on to the road creating a long line funnel as they edged in front of the person on their left to get a better view at about mile 6. Plus the wobbly 12 year old on his wobbly push bike who was into wobbling into the oncoming path of the runners. Respect the Run - yeah spectators could use that too. Date of review: November 2, 2007
