In short: Tough Hills, bloominh Hot, and Great crowds make this one special In full: The other comments say it all really. Thanks to everyone who brough out hose pipes, and the kids for bringing out their water guns, without this help from the locals, today would have been very very hard in the heat. In short: Rollercoaster of a half, with only the people of stoke keeping you going In full: Nice medal , really to hot, showed how far the start was wrong last year due to the huge walk round. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, kids squirting guns, hose pipes and people out in the steets, glorious, but big hills and heat left a lot to the will power and kept the pb's and hopes at bay. Still i managed 1.39 but did 1.29 last month in the leeds one. As siad last year, knock ten mins of ur time for ur average half marathon after this one
In short: Extremely hot, but well worth the money. In full: The heat almost spoiled this race, it would still be very demanding at half the temperature, some of those hills were killers, and the final one at 11.5 miles belongs on the side of a mountain. Don't get me wrong I aint complaining, I knew it was going to be hilly, I think the official line of undulating is a bit naive though.
Fantastic support from the people of Stoke and the people who made their own water stops and used their garden hoses as run through showers I can't say thank you enough and tell you how much they were appreciated.
Excellent finish area and the sense of achievement was immense, I'll be looking forward to doing this 'arf' next year and hoping for slightly cooler weather.
Really really great race. Date of review: June 11, 2006
In short: Hot, hard, hilly but worth the effort. great support which goes a long way !!!! In full: This was my second time at this event and was looking to be under 2 hours but the heat was stifling this year and I was frustrated to miss out on a medal by 2min 16sec but hey I was 14min quicker than last year so that plus the heat made it not too bad. The support was superb once again and I will be back to claim a medal next year !!!! Its a challenge but I would urge anyone to give it a pop as the sense of acheivement is sky high ! This is the hardest half I have done to date but it will make the others I do from now on seem like a piece of cake . Date of review: June 11, 2006
In short: Hot and hilly In full: A tough half m-thon that is hilly and hot,if you want a medal, you have to earn it, just missed out on silver but come next year that will be mine. Date of review: June 11, 2006
In short: Great atmosphere BUT must change medal system to avoid injuries In full: The ordinary people of Stoke did themselves proud with the cheer they offered us and the generosity they showed to the charity runners taking collections. I have done six similar races this year and no town has showed such generosity of spirit.
BUT given the coroners report for the Great North Run after four competitors died at last year's 25th anniversary event concluded that they died from over-exertion as they approached the end of the 13.1 mile race on an unusually hot September day. I think the organisers of this race have to now drop their unusual system for awarding medals, which directly encourages over exertion. Date of review: June 11, 2006
