In short: Tough, tumbled over in the mud, took forever but what a race! Stunning scenery, friendliest marshalls and runners. Terrific. In full: Despite my legs feeling like lead - not helped by the three pounds of mud caked to each shoe! - and struggling a lot in the last few miles, the stunning scenery, incredibly friendly and supportive marshalls and runners, lovely gloopy mud and challenging hills (felt like mountains to me!!) made this a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday. It put a smile on my face and half a hundredweight of mud in my washing machine.
Glad we bought our cakes before the race and had them put aside for us, otherwise we'd have missed out!!! Date of review: January 14, 2007
In short: Two things are a must for this race, trail shoes and a tupperware container to take cake home in. In full: Firstly, the most important issue of the day, to review the cake. Just which superlatives can I choose to describe the glorious decadence that is the cake ! Delectable, splendid, magnificent, succulent, uplifting, I could gush on and on ! I brought a wide variety of cake home and am greedily scoffing it as I type this review.
But what of the race ? Well, just take it from me that it is every bit as good as the cake in every which way. This is a rough event but even if you walk round the course it is so spectacular you can not fail to be weak at the knees when you finish, or indeed for several days afterwards. It is not only about running, but also footing, balance, picking your pathway and keeping at it through gritted teeth.
A real must do. I can not recommend this highly enough. Get it done.
In short: What a cracking day - I'm shattered. Brilliant race, a real challenge In full: Amazing way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday !!! Another triumph from Steve Goulding and crew. The hills were just as bad as last year and the mud was good for the complexion. Marshalls deserve gold stars and we remembered to buy our cakes before the start. Date of review: January 14, 2007
In short: Very tough but a fabulous race In full: Really enjoyed today's race. Very tough hills, very boggy but brilliant sunshine and fabulous scenery made this well worth the effort. Ran the whole thing will a broad grin on my face in spite of the regular discomfort and my total inability to keep my balance. Would do this again and highly recommend it. In short: Brilliant. I'm sore as hell and tickled pink. In full: This race lives up to its expectations and them some. The toughest, most beatiful route and the friendliest marshalls and runners. If I hadn't been so tired I could have kissed someone when I cross the line. This really is an "It's Good To Be Alive" Race! Date of review: January 14, 2007
In short: THAT hill ,those views, those cakes ? Wonderfull ! just a glorious day out In full: What a magnificent race ! stunning views and THAT hill, well organised and top marshalling , they deserve a medal for standing in the wind for 2 + hrs . I,m coming back for more of this next year. Date of review: January 14, 2007
In short: Yes there was a lot of hills and mud, but a hugely enjoyable experiance. Lots of smiling marshals and very well organised. In fact the only downer was that by the time I got the the village hall for the 'lengendary' cakes, they had all been eaten!! Date of review: January 14, 2007
In short: Very well organised and marshalled In full: The superb views took your mind off all the lovely mud and very steep inclines. Thoroughly enjoyed the event. Thanks especially to the organisers and marshalls who gave lots of encouragement along the route Date of review: January 14, 2007
