In short: My second time running this one In full: A quite challanging course, which is probably why I did it again, and I managed to knock 4 minutes off my previous P.B.!! One gripe, why the 1:00p.m. start? If it started at say 10:00 we'd finish before it gets too hot instead of starting at the warmest part of the day. Four people died on the G.N.R. last week due to the weather conditions so let's minimise the risk! Date of review: September 26, 2005
In short: Really good fun, I'm glad i put all that training in!!!! In full: Excellent fun. I'd been warned about the hills but they weren't as bad as I'd expected. The only bad momnet was when I thought I was going mad between 9 and 11 miles - the 10 mile sign was missing!! The joy of realising I'd done 2 instead of 1 miles made up for it though. In short: Great scenery, but hot, hilly and what the hell was going on in the car-park? In full: My first half marathon, pre-race I thought it was generally well organised to start with apart from the lamentable lack of toilets (a billed 'record' 6,000 runners, could they not have thought this element through a bit more and prevented multiple 'go and find a tree' incidents?) The atmosphere was very friendly though, marshalling was great, course was beautiful but very tough - we all knew it was going to be hilly but it would have been much better to run it earlier in the day to avoid the heat. The biggest single downside was the farcial car-park exits at the end. We needed proper lanes, proper marshalling and more than one exit. I'd do it again though, just for the scenery. In short: Excellent race, great organisation. In full: Overall a great race (first time I'd run it). Well organised - plenty of marshalls. My only criticism would be the water stations - if Vittel are a 'sponsor in kind' why can't they provide enough bottled water to supply all stations?
Plenty for the family to do whilst the race was on - made the day for the kids too.
Will do it again next year for sure though. Date of review: September 26, 2005
In short: Excellent. My first half marathon in my local park. Great atmosphere. In full: I had loads of supporters which really helped and knowing the park really well meant all the undulations didn't faze me. Really enjoyed the whole day apart from getting out of the car park. I should have cycled! Date of review: September 26, 2005
In short: VERY undulating but a great atmosphere carries you along In full: Made even better by the forum marquee! Took almost as long to get out of the car park though. Date of review: September 26, 2005
In short: Beautiful scenary and friendly runners - who could ask for more? In full: First time I've come by car, and I think I'll go back to the train next year as 2500 cars and one gate is always going to be a problem! Apart from that minor niggle, the race itself is excellant, well marshalled (thanks all!) and through some of the best scenary of any 1/2M. Well done the organisers (again!) In short: I thought the some of the hills were tough until I tried to get out the car park,,! In full: 3 months out through injury didn't help but next year, fingers crossed, I'll get some training in.. Thanks to all those involved!! Date of review: September 25, 2005
