In short: Nice flat course- PB potential In full: I enjoyed this race. It has a nice flat route which despite not being traffic free seemed to work well and had definite PB potential with just the right amount of water stops. Only criticism in the final straight- which became clustered with spectators and the 'goody bag' not actually containing any goodies! Date of review: May 20, 2012
In short: No water at the finish?!? In full: There seemed to be very few loos for the claimed 1000 runners (didn't look like that many to me)but as we arrived in good time the queues were quite short. The start was ok - the marshal was very very clear about no ipods etc and I understand that some people were actually disqualified for using them. The first 5 miles are pretty dull and the road surface at mile 7-8 was horrible and tiring. The support was patchy and a bit muted. I would prefer water in cups to bottles (and please marshalls, at least unscrew the caps!)but was astonished that there was no water at the finish - they were lucky it wasn't a warm day. Goody bag was poor - empty apart from a couple of flyers. Good race for a PB, but too expensive for what you got. Date of review: May 20, 2012
In short: Boring course, cheerless marshals, disappointing goody bag. In full: This race didn't represent value for money. A good part of the run was through the town and industrial estates, along busy roads and dodging traffic and pedestrians at the end. The reward was a medal and a dodgy packet of chewits. The start was peculiar, marshals didn't seem to be bothered. I doubt I'd do another race by this company. Date of review: June 20, 2011
In short: Good race, lacked atmosphere, disappointing goody bag In full: Its been a couple of years since my last Tewkesbury Half marathon, was interetsed to see the course and how the new organisers coped. The start lacked a build up, but once we all got going i really enjoyed the first 11 miles. As we approached the town though, marshals were few and far between, we were dodging through the shoppers, and i was nearly run over at the roundabout at the cross, mis informed driver thought the marshal said go to him, rather than me. Finish was as previous years, but poor goody bag. My running club had 56 runners in the race, the lack of chip times caused great consternation, and you couldnt get chip times easily from the website, or get team results. Black Sheep can do better with their results. Apart from that, good race, and im sure the organisers will tweek things to be better next year. Date of review: May 31, 2011
In short: Badly organised, over priced and not that exciting In full: Toilet queues at the start were intolerable, virtually the whole course was shared with traffic and I nearly got clipped by a tractor. Mostly uninspiring countryside and some really dull housing estates and busy a roads. I wouldn't bother coming back. Date of review: May 31, 2011
In short: Definitely a PB course, not a bad event, room for improvement In full: The race was ok.
start was very strange, the majority of people around me hadnt noticed the race had started until people in front started moving.
When I arrived there was a place for bag storage, when I went to put my bad there the tent had been taken down and it had gone. As a result I saw quite a large amount of people having to run around with car keys in their hand!!
Not many toilets, but there were plenty of bushes around so not a problem.
Medal was good, and the course is fast, if it hadnt been so windy on the last few miles would of been a PB by quite a bit Date of review: May 27, 2011
In full: First time I'd run Tewkesbury, and I'm afraid I won't be back next year. Overall the event really lacked atmosphere, despite pockets of support along the route. I didn't really enjoy running so much of the course alongside (albeit quite considerate) traffic and it detracted a lot from the countryside potential. Course was fairly flat (came close to matching my p.b. despite the wind), so would probably suit first timers looking for a small race to make step into the half marathon distance. In short: Not trying very hard In full: Why not send out the chips with the numbers? Why not enough loos? Why some loos run out of loo paper? Why no countdown to the start? Why water stations undermanned? Why so little in the goody bag considering the entry cost? Why so windy?
Ok, the last one isn't the organisers' fault, but the others are. I think it's a shame that so much of the race is run on boring roads in industrial estates, past army vehicle depots etc. But from 5 or so miles on it gets more pleasant. Date of review: May 24, 2011
In short: A great race; loads of water stations, not too tough, nice finish, good medal :-) In full: Why do runners love to moan so much? I don't think a wait of 36 hours is too offensive for a chip time, the photographs are available if you want them, and as for the start, if you're an organised runner with some race experience, you know to get to the front to get a fast start. I thought the race was good and friendly and will definitely be back next year. Date of review: May 24, 2011
