In short: A wonderful run but get some hill training in beforehand
In full: A stonking half marathon. Superbly organised in a beautiful setting. I loved it. If there is one criticism is that the pens seemed to be a bit generous 1:55-2:15+ covers a huge number of runners and could mean a difference of more than a minute and a half per mile between the fastest in the pen and the not so fast. But I'm being petty. It was a brilliant race and I loved it.

In short: Excellent race, very well organised and awesome setting
In full: I can't fault this race. The organisation is ultra efficient and very friendly. The course is beautiful and atmosphere is great.

All I would say is don't underestimate it, I run a fair bit but a few of the hills are challenging and I do ache in new places 24 hours later, so it's worth training for! If you are aiming for a PB, head for the front at the start, the trails are narrow in places and a lot of slower runners weren't really in the right pens, leading to congestion.

As this becomes more popular year on year, it will get more crowded so maybe not a PB course, BUT in future years I will be back and wil treat it as a chilled run in the Forest and enjoy the scenery and atmosphere and leave the PB's for road races :-)

In short: See you in September
In full: As a warm up for London and having missed 8 weeks of training this was my long run for London. As a local I have walked the dog in the forest so knew what to expect.
Still frustrated that some people started in the wrong place and also chatting 3 abreast on the way round.
The marshalls were very vocal and encouraging. Sadly my chip missed my start but my stopwatch had me at 1h 58 which is better shape for London than I thought.
See you at the end of September FOD.

In short: Another well delivered HM
In full: Fifth year in a row running this and hopefully not my last.

So,

Pros..great atmosphere. Excellent finish. Clockwork organisation. Mizuno laid on VIP lounge for everyone running in Mizuno trainers - a fantastic touch.

Cons - v busy at start (but i still managed to do a PB of just under 1.35 so not too many complaints). People starting in wrong pens...its all been said already.

In short: only april fools missed it
In full: The weather made an already excellent race absolutely first class. Well done to all involved. The only (tiny) suggestion I'd make would be to try a bit harder to persuade people to start in the appropriate place - there were a lot of slow runners starting pretty near the front. But that's tiny and it's a special race.

In short: Excellent off road half.
In full: Excellent off road half marathon in the forest of dean. First mile on road but otherwise on forest trails. A few hills (nothing serious) but probably not going to be a PB course. Well organised, plenty of marshals and drinks stations. Excellent scenery complemented by superb weather and enthusiastic support made for a great morning out.

In short: f
In full: Overall an enjoyable experience. Despite having done no hill training I didn't find the hills overly challenging. They just added another dimension to the race. It would be good though if people who were walking could move to the side!
The only negative comment is that it was very frustrating having to stop for the road crossing expecially being at the front of the group that were stopped. This added 2 minutes to our times.

In short: Bloomin marvellous
In full: Theres no doubt that glorious spring weather always helps a race - and puts a smile on the face and elicits a sigh of relief from the Race Director.... but this was one race that the RD (and his team) had done enough in advance to be confident of a great race WHATEVER the weather. From the portaloos tho the massive parking field, to the marshalls and assistance all round - this was one great race. Certainly undulating - but the scenery more than made up for the few puffing and panting hills. Well done FoD - I'll certainly be back!
