In short: 3rd time In full: Some lovely parts of the course with fantastic supports, other parts pretty dull. I personally do not like running one way with others passing you going the other way on the same piece of road.
However, got a pb so very happy. Not sure if I will do it again as travelling to Brighton to pick up running number is a real pain Date of review: April 19, 2012

In short: Brighton Marathon is quickly becoming a great event in it's own right and not an alternative to London In full: This event is coming on leaps and bounds. The organisation is excellent and with decent weather is a Marathon to put on the to do list. The first half is undulating - but what goes up must come down ! and the 2nd half is a mental test in its self with the dreaded Powerstation area.
Plenty of support along the course apart from the Powerstation areas. The t-shirt is ok but why these races dont do technical t's I dont know.
Cost has gone up for 2013-but I have signed up again. Date of review: April 19, 2012

In short: not hot this year, and a bit less zing overall. still a top event In full: great organisation again, although less music on the course and general stuff going on, but still a great effort. odd to see the hills mentioned, they are mere slopes! i didnt get on with the water pouches - fiddly and hard to get anything out of the bottom half. crowded at points but never enough to be a problem and just enough to chat any time Date of review: April 18, 2012

In short: great race, great support team, great crowds In full: my first full marathon and a great introduction to this distance, the whole event ran like clockwork, the support teams were brilliant and the crowd support was execellent,i did not find the course difficult being fairly flat and there was always something to look at to keep you interested, only bad thing for me were the water pouches, which i did not like at all, either you got no water or you got a shot of water to the back of the throat which caused you to choke, also some of the helpers handed them to you by the tab which you had to then put in your mouth so i was not too keen on that, other than that the whole experience was brilliant, very inspiring to see so many runners for charity Date of review: April 18, 2012

In short: Brighton Rocks! In full: What a great race the Brighton Marathon is! Yes the course is hilly in the first half but there are as many downhill sections as uphill so can't complain too much! The crowd support is superb - unrivalled by any event that I have done! Write your name on your running shirt and you will literally have hundreds of supporters rooting for you - a real boost when the going gets tough. Oh, and is does! Sadly the 20 mile mark when most runners will 'hit hit the wall'/'lose the will to put one foot in front of the other' is around the aptly named Saucony Road to Hell (the aforementioned power station area). Lack of scenery and supporters in this area is a killer, however, the seafront scenery and fantastic atmosphere along the last 3 miles of the course more than make up for it. Plenty of water and fuel stations, copious amounts of vaseline plus TLC are available all along the route from willing volunteers with smiles and encouragement. I highly recommend this race to any first timer and seasoned marathoner alike. Nice medal, t-shirt and goody bag too! Thanks Brighton - I'm already registered for next year! In short: First marathon, and a good one do do as a first. In full: I came up from Cornwall to do this race, it was my first full marathon. A few things went wrong on the day which gave me a lot slower time than I was aiming for, but none of this was down to the race itself. I liked the water bags, as if I have water in cups I get more down my t shirt than in my mouth, and bottles just end up getting tripped over. The route was ok, but I thought it would be more scenic, the worst bit for me was running up a seeming never ending street before turning back around and running down it again. My only real moan is there was not enough toilets, there were points where I had to decide if it was better to go in a headge or que. Apart from that a first great marathon.

In short: Blustery, Beautiul and Brilliant - Yet Again! In full: My 2nd time running the Brighton Marathon and managed to get a PB - all of 18 seconds, well they all count! The weather was great, a little windy in places but it is mostly on the seafront so what do you expect? The changes to the course made it even better this year - the first half is challenging and we all know about the Portslade Harbour section so let's not mention it again. But the thing that really makes Brighton special is the atmosphere and the support from the crowd is something else. If ever a town was meant to host a marathon it's Brighton. The only thing that annoys me is people saying it's an 'alternative' to London - as if it's somehow inferior - it's not. It's a great marathon in it's own right. Date of review: April 18, 2012

In short: Great race for a great city In full: This was my first marathon. It was everything i hoped for, well organised, excellent crowds, plenty of water/fuel stops, fairly flat course. As others have mentioned the 20-23 miles around the power station where hard - lack of crowds and a little industrial. Overall I would highly recommend!

In short: Well organised and very enthusiastic support - well done Brighton! In full: I enjoyed this race. The course was well laid out and had a mix of good views, well supported residential streets, and even - yes - a hideous dull section after 20 miles that you were glad to put behind you!
I didn't much care for the water pouches and in common with others had a coughing fit when trying to drink from one. I also like to douse my head in a bit of water and it was difficult to do that with these. Other than those minor gripes it was an excellent marathon with a great atmosphere and I would recommend it to others. Date of review: April 18, 2012
