In short: Flat and Fast In full: Great course and good value for money. People confused by the start which I can understand but I was lucky enough to be near the front so could hear the instructions. Weather was perfect and the flat course suited my lack of training. Date of review: January 21, 2014
In short: Go quick at Inskip In full: I agree with other reviewers. The start was a bit of a muddle and it did throw some runners; a fella alongside me panicked at the 2 mile mark thinking he was well slow and he then pushed on too much. Thankfully I guessed right! The marquee was very muddy but plenty of space and a decent amount of toilets and tables. Marshalls were really good although there was one point that could have done with one where I found myself on the wrong side of the road somehow! Great goody bag and a bargain price. Best bit? The red cabbage!!! Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Excellent - except for the start In full: I travelled a long way for this, lured by the promise of a flat and fast course, and was not disappointed. There were a few barely perceptible inclines, otherwise completely flat. It is hard to imagine a course anywhere that could be flatter.
The organisation overall was really good; no big queues for car parking, helpful, friendly marshalls, good signposting, and absolutely the best goody bag ever, consisting of a big bar of chocolate, medal and a nice hat.
The only criticism, unfortunately is a big one; the start. I was only 10 metres from the inflatable arch that had 'Start' written on it, and did not hear any instructions at all. Normally at a small event such as this I'd expect someone with a loudhailer to be giving last minute reminders and then a count down from ten and an air horn, or something similar. Instead everyone just started running. Without the 'beep' of chip timing to give me a prompt, I started my watch at the arch. Like everyone around me I was surprised when after a minute or so the field bunched up and came to a standstill for a few seconds before moving off again. Then when I pressed the lap button at the 1 mile marker, the time was a minute and a half longer than expected, which made me run too fast for the next few miles.
I have just found out from reading another review, that the actual start was not at the arch, but after the temporary halt out on the road. This explains why my timings were all wrong.
I'm sorry to make such a big issue about this, but getting everyone off to a clean start at a clearly defined point is essential. There needed to be someone running down the verge explaining what was going on, because about 75% of the field did not have a clue.
I ran a very slow time because a period of illness had ruined my fitness, but it was a very nice day; cool, hardly any breeze; ideal pb conditions. This event has everything going for it, and I will definitely come back next year. Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: lovely cheesy potato pie! In full: Very enjoyable race, well organized, the start was a bit confusing this year but i'm sure that won't happen again. First rate food and facilities in a lovely part of the world. oh.... and it is a fast course. Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Very well organised race and course is as flat as a pancake In full: This is a great race at a bargain price.
Car parking was well organised, number pick up was smooth, plenty of toilets and chance to grab a brew before the start. Course is flat and on a non-windy day it is as fast as you can find. It is well marshalled and has 3 water stations. Great goody bag at the end with a medal, hat and massive chocolate bar. Also have the added delight of hotpot complete with crust and red cabbage.
Only point I would make this year was the start was badly managed. I was only about 10 rows back and I couldn't hear the organiser. From the runners in front I picked up the start arch wasn't the start but we would be jogged round to the start on the road. As this wasn't communicated throughout the field there were runners trying to barge past to get up to speed. A mega-phone or even go along the grass at the side and shouting the message would have solved this. Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Friendly, Scenic, Fast, Hotpot! In full: Thanks for a great race! Friendly marshals and atmosphere for a lovely route around the lanes and villages which was pretty much flat and fast; PB for me! Excellent pre-race communication and quick results. Hotpot was delicious! For next year maybe a megaphone for the start; there was some confusion of what was happening and I am still not sure if the big arch was actually the start of if that was round the corner on the road (as the times suggest).
