In short: My Fav race, thank you Brighton In full: This is the second time I have run Brighton and my 10th marathon in all and this is my favourite race. I did not have a great run, running 14 minutes slower than last year, but the crowd and the organisation made up for it. You cannot thought the organisation for this race from start to finish, with the start being much better this year. This year I run without headphones and the crowd were amazing, trying to get the runners to the finish. I also thought the power station section was much better this year with no road to hell sign and more crowd support being there this year. The only thing I could say I was disappointment with was the t shirt being too much like last years one, it would be nice to have a new design or colour. I was thinking about running it again next year, but having a look at the rise in cost, I will try to run a different marathon instead next year in these hard times. Date of review: April 17, 2013
In short: Brighton - just let me out!! In full: Brighton is a good marathon. Plenty of water stations - much needed as the heat gave me a seaside glow. Hadn't thought that possible with the mud and grey clouds at Preston Park. Baggage lorries and general organisation I can't fault BM. Even failing to get my A time from mentally blowing up after 18 miles did not deter me from signing up for 2014. But please please please don't force people onto the beach or make runners walk all the way to West Street underpass when I needed to go north of the Brighton Dome. Date of review: April 17, 2013
In short: Fab race and you can enjoy an ice bath in the sea afterwards! In full: As a first time marathoner, this was an amazing eperience. Great course (apart from the power station!) with great crowd support and plenty of water and fuel stations. Only downside was the Expo and lack of signage for the repatriation area. In short: Great Race that can be improved to make it even better! In full: My first marathon
Positives: Marshalls, volunteers and the Brighton public back their marathon with fantastic support.
Negatives: Unnecessary Expo, traffic in town on Saturday was horrendous and increased expense for runners. No pre-printed material such as start map and finish area maps, very useful for runners and spectators - should have been in race day pack. No park and ride to Mini-mile start, not joined up with main event as it should have been. This proved a logistical nightmare for my family with two children taking part. A long way to walk at the end and loop back round to charity village/repatriation was unhelpful.
Having said all that I would love to race Brighton again sometime. I will be back. Date of review: April 17, 2013
In short: Fabulous race, will be back again for a third time!! In full: I was dreading this due to lack of training but as soon as I passed the start line I remembered why I signed up again a year ago. The crowd were absolutely brilliant and volunteers/ marshals very enthusiastic and helpful! I can't fault it and have just signed up again for next year and recommened it to anyone looking for a brilliant marathon! Date of review: April 16, 2013
In short: Great race,Great atmosphere but way too expensive In full: Every thing about the actual race is great. Course is tough but support is superb all the way round. Medal is fantastic. But everything else just seems to be designed to rip off the runners. too expensive to enter, Having to go down to collect your race number is a joke adding more expense, and the Expo is poor, Park and ride is more than twice the cost of the half marathon, why? you even have to pack your own goody bag at the end. Sort it out Brighton. Condolences to the competitor who sadly passed away Date of review: April 16, 2013
In short: All good until the last 10k In full: Generally a well organised race with a good atmosphere. the only depressing bit was the last 10k when you run out to the Power station and then turn back into the wind. the lack of support at this stage makes it really tough. Sections like that would be bearable if they were earlier in the race. But this is nitpicking a little! Date of review: April 16, 2013
In short: I LOVED THIS PARTY! In full: Great race,Thank you to all the Marshals, locals and volunteers who made this day fantastic. I want to run it again... But Brighton Marathon you decided to ramp the costs up.... Not happy and cant believe the increase was close to £20 more.. Greed i think? im not sure. But if the price was increased a little I would enter again, but £20 come on!! Thats just wrong! Date of review: April 16, 2013
