In short: A great day In full: My first time and will definitely be there next year. I live a few miles away from the venue so no problem with parking but it looked a bit of a problem on leaving (parking not helped by recent heavy rain)A great atmosphere and well organised. Thanks to everyone involved. Date of review: November 10, 2010

In short: FAN - MUDDY - TASTIC In full: This was my first Hell Runner and I will be doing it again next year. I arrived early and parked on the station car park, 5 mins walk to the start had no problems with traffic going to or from the forest. (Moral arrive early)
The race itself was FAB, a good mix of tracks, trails, bogs, hills the only thing I would add if I was being greedy would be a few more obstacles / challenges.
The race distance was a little short and I had no problems with my timing chip (unlike others) To be honest these two factors didn't spoil the day for me. I suppose it depends on how serious you are about times and distance, for me it was a good fun with no pressure on times which made it more enjoyable.

In short: Holy Mary, Mungo and Midge, this was diamond-like; hard and brilliant In full: last did this 4 years ago - it seemed shorter but harder. nice pre-race freebies and good goody bag. Chip timing was pants - I watched my friend finish about 100 yds and 1 hr 10 mins ahead of me!! Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: Great race, a classic. In full: I got there at 8am & found no problems with parking. Went straight to the sign-posted field which was almost empty. The Whitefield car park sounded like it was busier.
A classic, insane trail race, with hills, swamps, bogs, mud.....BONKERS!!
Shame they cut it short to get another race in. Last year was better, as the longer race was tougher. Hope they start it at 9am next year, & get both races back to the original length.
Many problems with the chip timing. I don't think they'll use those paper chip ankle bands again, as they aren't reliable enough. Mine worked fine, although I needed a replacement as my original had no sticky on!
I absolutely love this race, & have entered Hell in the Middle too. It's just hilarious to be running along with a load of nutters, & to hear screams in the distance, so you know a swamp is coming up!!
They could do with a hosepipe at the end though, as there's no water anywhere to get some mud off! Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: A bit boring in parts more water and mud needed In full: Car park was awfull to get on and off, Good value nice goody bag just thought it was a bit boring in parts some more water and heavy mud would have made it a bit more interesting!! Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: Hell up North!!!! In full: My first Hell run and I have to say it was devilish! I was running with a cold so I felt my energy draining on some of the climbs. They promised mud amd we certainly got plenty. The Bog of Doom was great fun and a great finish to the race. I think the quality of the t-shirt and "goody" bag was quite poor considering it cost £25 to enter. All in all it was an enjoyable day and I certainly enjoyed my hot shower when I got home. See you again next year Hellrunner?? Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: Great race, feel conned about the distance, shambolic parking! In full: My first race, run with dad, sister and my other half. We all finished, all had a brilliant time. Feel completely cheated about the distance - I know it was only a mile or so out.....but its still not what it said it was going to be! Parking was just utter chaos! Two events in one day? Greed....
My only major gripe is...that coming out of the Bog of Doom took forever....I was stood in the cold water for at least 5 mins...really not sure how best that could be resolved (have 2 waves..one for proper racers and one for fun runners!?!), but I got a bit frustrated with having to wait for slower less exerienced trail runners to pluck up the courage to jump in!
Also, goody bags were great....a medal next time perhaps? Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: Great fun but the organisation let it down, and the distance was shorter than advertised In full: This was my first time doing Hellrunner and I loved it, would definitely do it again. However, the following areas could be improved: - The race pack lacked information. Maps and a more detailed explanation of the parking arrangements would have helped. - The organisation was poor. Race started late due to parking problems which I suspect was due to overcrowding (perhaps they let too many people into the race), and it was announced that there were two waves - none of this information was in the race pack. I didn't know which wave I was in, or how to get into the first one (which I should have been in based on my times). - The race was overcrowded and bottlenecked so much that I felt like I walked half the way! You don't want to start a race and be walking in the first 100 metres. If they want more people in the race, why not have more waves (and actually inform people about the wave system beforehand!)? - It seems like the distance was shorter than advertised. There is talk on the forums of it falling short of 9 miles, which makes sense looking at my time. With the amount of walking I had to do due to the crowding, I'd be surprised if I got round a 10 mile course in that time.
Still worthwhile and one of the best races I've done - it's really different. Just feel that the organisation needs to be stepped up a lot if it is to continue to be a success. Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: I am still cleaning the mud off - it was definitely an experience - and I think it was a fun!o! In full: Apart from a mix up with the race results - my time was originally an hour more than it should have been (and I'm still convinced it is out by a few mins)- this was on the whole a well organised race. We were a bit delayed at the start but signage and marshalls were excellent. It was a fun experience and one I'm thinking about repeating ... Date of review: November 9, 2010
