In short: UFD 1/2 maintains its special community feel In full: 2nd time I've run this but the first was 3 years ago. Pleased to say it's lost none of its charms as a friendly, community feel 1/2 marathon. It has great PB potential, the laps can be mentally challenging but as you come to the final lap it does provide you with that boost knowing that you're nearly there!
Only note I'll make is I had a car leaving the far side changing rooms drive deliberately towards me as I was approaching the small lane just before the water station, forcing me to stop and I then got a mouthful of abuse for my troubles. Perhaps a temporary sign just before the crossing asking drivers to give way to runners might be an idea (although I think I just got unlucky with this idiot). Great, friendly and encouraging marshalling. Thanks UFD, I'm sure I'll be back again next year.
In short: A really good event! Lovely atmosphere and good value. In full: A very enjoyable race! Excellent organisation, great facilities (parking, changing, toilets etc) and brilliant marshaling and support from the organizers. I was worried I wouldn't enjoy running 6 laps but the surroundings in the park turned out to be really pretty so it was no problem. Finishers got a really nice medal, a personalized certificate and a food goody bag (which was basically a mini-picnic!). You do have to count your own laps but this is manageable (no problem with a Garmin). There were some nice touches like having drinks and snacks (including homemade flapjacks) for pre-race fuel and lots of the marshals had a list of runner names/numbers so they could cheer you on by name. Fun, friendly, good value for money and well organised. I would run this again and be happy to recommend it to others, including someone trying their first half-marathon. In short: Great half marathon In full: One of the most friendly half marathons I have ever run. The route was beautiful and because of that I had no problems running it six times. The place was easy to get to by public transport. This half marathon is a must. Date of review: September 10, 2013
In short: very friendly and professional event In full: This was a very friendly event with the marshalls having name sheets and cheering every lap. It is also almost totally flat so a PB should be possible. Make sure you wear your biggest Garmin watch because one of the organisers loves them! Date of review: September 9, 2013
