In short: Excellent, well organised event catering for both experienced and first time runners In full: I completed the half marathon for the first time in 5 years. Wasn't looking forward to the new course (I used to enjoy Wollaton Park) but was surprised by how good it was and well supported (apart from the section through boots - the staff there weren't allowed to come out and cheer us on - surely a company of boots standing could have organised a staff event to support the runners!!). Start was well organised with sections for different times. Liked the ending two miles along the river with lots of support. Finish was good and well organised. I would definitely recommend this half marathon Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: First half marathon - had a great day In full: Organisation before and on the day was very good. water pouches were fab. Lucozade bottles far too big - so much was wasted. shot glass sizes would be better.
In short: Okay race but messed up the start for the fast non elite runners. In full: Start was a mess as let elites go 1 min ahead of main field which caused problems with some of the results. Not sure this helped anyone as the faster people in the main field could have been racing the slower elites which would have helped both lots of runners. Course not as fast as expected - the section through the university whilst quite interesting is a bit twisty and also includes some hills so not fast. Finish isn't ideal as go past to come back. For faster runners having your name on your number was good as you got people cheering your name. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: First half, completed VLM back in April, enjoyed it but not as much as VLM In full: Excellent organisation, great turn out, great atmosphere, only grumble was the drinks pouches, didn't know how to use them ?? the last two miles, running past the finish line was hellish, oh and even though the processing through the finish line was faultless, getting out the other side was a bit of a nightmare with relatives/friends congregating at the exit. In short: Better than last year but could still be better In full: There were definite improvements over last year. Putting cheering stations in the Boots Industrial area was a definite improvement, but the area is still a real bug-bear, it's boring and seeing as no public are allowed in, you don't get the crowd support either there or on the run up to it. The double-back at the Embankment is also soul destroying, probably the worst part of the race. Can I suggest that you put the course back how it was in 2010? Ok, so it was more hilly but it took you past some wonderful landmarks and through Wollaton park & surrounding areas which was always a highlight of the race. I'll do this one again because it's local & worthy of local support but PLEASE change it back! Scenic and supportive is so much more important than fast & flat for the vast majority of runners! In short: Nice flat course but too narrow in parts and organisation not brililant. In full: Overall this is a great race with PB potential and a decent race for beginners. What prevents a true PB is the "bottle necking" where it is very narrow in places however this is not helped by people who run much slower than the time pen they are in. Nice and scenic particularly in the second half and marshalls very encouraging throughout. Would definitely recommend - especially as its discounted for the unemployed etc. Disappointing not to receive a t shirt in with race price but fab medal more than makes up for it.
