In short: Foul weather, but a great day out. In full: All credit to the marshals who were out for a long, long time in awful weather but were cheerful to the end. Date of review: December 11, 2007

In short: First ultra I've done-fanstastic organisation and fantastic marshalls In full: Weather was awful, windy, cold and every field seemed to be ankle deep in mud but to be honest it didn't matter. A fantastically organised event, friendly marshalls for the full 50 miles and everyone helping each other to get the finish. I'd recomend this to anyone, a brilliant experience. Now if only I hadn't tripped up 1\4 mile from the finish I have broken 10hrs....perhaps next year! Date of review: December 10, 2007

In short: Epic in every sense of the word. "challenge" is an understatement. It was a killer - when can I enter for next year?! In full: 25 anniversary event in 2007. Route is majority off road, which is OK in the cold and dry, but needs serious respect when it has been monsoon conditions for a week. It was wild, it was tough as nails, it was a slog, and it gets you to the best bits of Rotherham (damned with faint praise!).
An event this long will always be special, and this 25th event was no exception. Organisers are fabulous, and the helpers were stalwarts - out in the wild conditions for many many hours. At least we had the exercise to keep us warm. Be very careful with this event. The cutoff is generous for total time to finish, but that doesn't mean you should approach it half-heartedly. It can be a lot harder than a road 50, and this year it certainly was. Many miles through ploughed fields in deep gloop and slidey mud. Date of review: December 9, 2007

In short: Very tough in the conditions. In full: Difficult race to judge. Really well organised for such a huge course and the marshalls and checkpointers did a fantastic job on a truly lousy day.Thank you. Did I enjoy it? Not as much as I had hoped - some lovely parts to the course. Other parts are dreadful (stage 2) and others you can't see cos its dark.Glad Ive done it - but possibly a one off! In short: A REAL challenge for the brave or foolheardy. Don't expect to be walking the next day. In full: My first ultra and what an experience - ice, mud and stiles by the score. Apart from the conditions underfoot the BIG challenge is navigation, particularly if you are out after dark at the back end of the race. Following muddy tracks across muddy fields and rough ground is challenging to say the least - and proved my undoing. However, if you are after a runner's high, this event can provide it, together with sore quads for a few days as a momento. Get out there and try it, you might just enjoy this one. In short: Wonderfully friendly, exceptional organisation..... In full: For a tenner events dont come much better than this. Ok a 50 mile ultra might not be for everyone, but if you can do a marathon you can do this. SO MUCH time and effort goes into this event, it really is somehting different you can do as the year comes to an end. If you are reading this and thinking...shall I? DO IT....2007 is the 25th running of this, and I heard rumours that there might not be sufficient interest in volunteers etc to keep it going....I hope there is. Where else can you do an event that has food at all of the 8? checkpoints, (not just a few jelly babies either...cakes, sarnies, soup) a cheery smile and encouragement from the many volunteers (thanks AGAIN TO YOU ALL!) a meal at the end, endless cups of tea, showers, a tshirt and patch as a momento and also a certificate and full results/split times sent a while after in the post!?!?? In short: Fantastic long, muddy run around Rotherham's border. It shouldn't work, but it does. In full: This was my first attempt at any race longer than the Dartmoor 32 miler and enjoyed it thoroughly. I did whine about the pain all race, but loved it in a sick kind of way. The high standard surpised me, but everyone was friendly and i would reccommend it to anyone who doesn't mind legs that don't work for a few days. Date of review: December 10, 2006

In short: Challenging self navigated ultra at a time of year when it could be horrible weather! In full: My first ultra - and was thoroughly enjoyable until i ran into a ditch while reading a map and runnign at the same time and twisted my ankle really really badly. I stubbornly carried on (i had done about 42-43 miles!) and eventually finished..then wasnt able to run for about 6 weeks. Hope to be back in 2006 to do it properly! Date of review: June 29, 2006
