In short: A great race for a first timer, despite the distance issues In full: As this was my first half I wasn't too upset about the distance issue, and to be honest I am just relieved to discover that my footpod isn't as far out as I thought it was yesterday!
The section of the course along the Tarka trail was lovely and scenic and the turnout in Bideford to welcome us back was great. I will definitely run it again -especially if I know it is going to be shorter next time!! Date of review: March 2, 2009
In short: Yes it was longer then stated but they have owned up to it! lets give them a break shall we! In full: I would be more inclined to be annoyed if they had not owned up to their error, at least now everyone has a reason why their times were not as they thought they should be. I am not going to let this spoil what for me was a lovely race, the scenary is beautiful the support great and for once a T shirt I can actually use! I travelled from Bristol and I would do again. In short: If you ignore the distance error a great race In full: As this was a training run for myself the mileage was not an issue but can fully understand the frustration for people who were going for PB's on this fairly quick course. I too would be livid if I was treating this as more competitive than I had planned. My only suggestion apart from the measurement would be to add a bollard warning sign on the path leading back to the main car park within the first mile. Would not be able to comment on postage or payment issues for the timing chip as I had no problem in receiving mine. Great course, Extremely well supported in Bideford itself & at the point where you join the Tarka Trail, was not expecting a mass turnout of supporters in the rural sections. With 1200 runners it would have been nice if there was a bit of help from the council with the parking charges (Only knew that the long stay cheaper carpark was to the rear of the finish line as we had been out the day before the race - Surely the whole area could have been long stay charges - or less - for the day £2.50) In fairness to BAAC they had advised of the charges. For a tourism reliant town out of season I would have thought an influx of people using the local cafes - & in my case, hotel - would have allowed for subsidised parking. Hope the issue does not allow for future races to be affected by disgruntled runners as this is a charming race Date of review: March 2, 2009
In short: apologise for baac In full: Hello, this is an apology from BAAC due to human error the course was longer. We have run this racr for nealy 15 years without an issue. we understand the frustration and disappointment caused by this error.

In short: Great race but, er, 1/3rd mile too long!!!! In full: Had a wonderful day out. My first proper race in preparation for the FLM, and was very satisfied with 1h32'30. I was even more satisfied when I discovered that due to human error everyone ran at least 13.4 miles. Only in Devon! :-) The run was lovely. Mostly pretty flat, but with small undulations on the first half. The final 6 miles along the Tarka trail is lovely, though we hit a bit of headwind coming up the estuary. The weather was glorious, and the organisers were great getting me in following an injury that I thought would mean I couldn't partipate. I would give one word of warning though. I live around here and we sometimes get stinking wet days. The race would be much tougher on one of those. Overall though - fabulous day out. Date of review: March 1, 2009
In short: this used to be my favourite race but not after today's cock up In full: haven't done this race for a couple of years and was really looking forward to it.trying to go sub 80 mins but the first mile split put an end to that.also had to pay over a pound and collect my number/chip and only received it thursday.start was rubbish[why not start on the main road ? ], oh and how much for the car park? criminal.town council must be raking it in !shan't bother next year.but nice tee-shirt !!! In short: Some disappointing aspect this year In full: A few little niggles have made this more of a chore than previous years. Firstly I sent my entry with a first class SAE put the post would not deliver it because it was 9p short, so I got charged £1.09 and had to drive to pick it up. This was due to the chip so an indication of postage required would have been appreciated, other people I know received theirs with a first class stamp no problem. Distance ! I felt good this morning and went for a PB, my pace on my garmin was looking good yet when I did the maths at 12 miles I could work out that I was not going to PB, this demoralised and confused me as all along I was pushing hard and doing well. I thought it may have been because of the tunnel it had thrown my garmin off (it has been fine on previous years though) My garmin says 13.6 miles but others I know said 13.49. I was talking to a club mate and moaning about missing my PB by seconds when he said the course is measured incorrectly and you would have done it !! I hope they adjust the times to reflect this and maybe people will be happier, there is nothing worse than really killing yourself only to see the clock ticking over what you were expecting to do !! In short: Innacurate distance has meant time totally meaningless In full: I came down from Bristol for this race specifically to get a decent time in. Yes, it was a lovely course, nice weather, friendly etc but the 13.45 miles I ran as opposed to 13.1 has totally ruined the day for me. This may be harsh but I really think it is inexcusable organisation for a race of this size. Date of review: March 1, 2009
