In short: Well organised traditional half marathon In full: I first heard about this race in 1995 and have been meaning to do it ever since (in those days you got a plate for finishing!). Finally in 2015 I got my chance and wasn't disappointed. Excellent organisation, playful course (undulating but no massive hills), great marshals and one of the best-ever goody bags. Marshals are lovely and relentlessly enthusiastic (including the one who was trying to get me to take my allotted piece of flapjack while I was being sick!).
Despite the hills it's a quick course and a couple of my clubmates got pbs. The start is a bit of a scramble but after half a mile the pack stretches out allowing for some good racing. Wasn't keen on the long drag up the Chesterfield road at miles 11/12 but it was the same for everyone so I can't complain!
The race goes through a wide mix of scenery in a lesser-visited part of Derbyshire. Cresswell Crags (cavemen) and Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) are nearby so why not run and make a day out of it? Date of review: November 25, 2015
In short: Beautiful half marathon with a challenging climb In full: This was my 5th year running Conway half, there are more people running every year and as it's grown its remained well organised. I find all Run Wales events good with lovely t-shirts and medals. Have to say tho after reading the reviews I missed the goody bag! I did 2:28 so not sure if the ran out at that point or if I just missed it. Gutted it sounded great! I plan to do this race every year I love it. Date of review: November 23, 2015
In short: Great day out In full: Thanks to Clowne roadrunners and the marshals for another great race. Brilliant goodie bag especially the packet of pikelets! Not sure but the course seems longer and more hillier every year, still my favourite half marathon though. Date of review: November 23, 2015
In short: Hilly but fun In full: This was my first HM. A wise choice in terms of the scenery, the friendliness and the organisation. Not so wise in terms of the hilliness. I'll definitely do it again next year though. There was one marshall who actually whooped at about 12m - not sure how she managed to keep up her enthusiasm but I really appreciated it!
In short: A well organised and friendly run! In full: This is a local one to us, so it seemed like a good one for our first ever HM. It was tougher than expected (the inclines in miles 9 and 10 were a killer)! But it was fun, well organised and friendly - would definitely recommend it (and we'll probably do it again next year)! In short: Very well organized event , definately one to put on your to do list . In full: Heard good reports about this event so decided to enter this year and it did not disappoint . Fairly scenic for the most part and some quite challenging undulations in places but nothing to bad , 2nd half is slightly hillier therefore (unless you are an elite runner) slower . Only downside i can think of is during the 1st 3 miles the traffic (Cars and Vans) can get quite busy and as the race has only just got underway there are plenty of groups of runners around so in some cases cars etc are trying to weave in and out of runners but after that the rest of the course is fine , race is also chip timed and the goody bag at the end puts alot of much bigger events to shame (2 bottles of isotonic drink , banana , wafer , T Shirt , a soreen mini cake and a six pack of crumpets in this years goody bag)plus free homemade flap jacks at the end , really glad i entered and will look forward to next years event , get in early though as it can sell out quick !!! Big thumbs up from me to the Clowne roadrunners for putting on a great event , roll on 2016 Date of review: November 22, 2015
In short: Excellent organisation. An undulating course. The weather was cold but hardly any wind. Marshals were excellent. The t shirt and goody bag was very generous.I'll be back next year. Date of review: November 22, 2015
