In short: Great run. In full: Thanks and well done to all concerned in organising this very enjoyable event. Even though there is a 21 mile long hill, it has PB potential as the hill is gently but steady. The last down hill was so long and steep my ears were popping due to the pressure change!

In short: Chaotic In full: Billed as the second largest marathon in the UK, the organisation was nowhere this standard. The whole event had the feeling of a much lower key race rather than the five star experience that the promotional activity seemed to promise. My main gripe was not the invisible mile markers, the goody bag, shirt, medal or arrangements at the finish. All of which were poor. My main problem was with the route itself. It was always clear that the route would be along the coast & not through the City of Edinburgh but it seemed like it had been completely rehashed. Wasn't the weird detour at around mile 20 supposed to be at around mile 16 and heading outwards? It seems the route changed at the last minute - hence the farcical scenes at the finish & the positioning of the stand? Would be interested to know if this was the case. I would, however, like to say a big thankyou to the locals for their support and to the volunteers who did their best in difficult circumstances. Despite the problems i will remember the race fondly.

In short: The Rolls-Royce of races. In full: This race has it all - A superb course, fresh air, magnificent scenery, a friendly atmosphere, meticulous organisation, and a nice memento and goody-bag at the finish. This year even the weather was perfect. A big thank you to Ian Milne, Randell Tassell and the rest of the team at Matlock AC for organising this very special event, and I look forward to taking part again next year. In short: Why haven't I done this before?? In full: A fantastically well organised race, relaxed, friendly and cheerful marshals, plenty of water stations, not that well supported until towards the finish but then that is to be expected. Organisation was like clockwork! I will most definitely be back again. The undulations in the first 17ish miles were hardly noticeable although I am sure that it must have taxed the legs a bit, the last 3-4 miles with 2 steep downhills were an absolute gift if like me you are prepared to just let yourself go for it, certainly woke the legs up again!! Such a scenic course as well. Date of review: May 23, 2011

In short: deceptively tough first half, but a pleasure to be part of In full: Being blessed with decent weather, this was a fantastic day out. Well organised, friendly, and almost perfect event! (apart from those downhills!) Date of review: May 23, 2011

In short: Great run in the Derbyshire Countryside In full: Great run, if a little windy at timebut only to be expected. Marshalls were excellent as well as some supporters who kept popping up in various places. Only thing to watch out for are the few mindless mountain bikers who think they own the trail, but most were fine.

In short: Tough as teak but well worth it In full: Hard as nails but well worth the effort. Full credit to Matlock AC for a well organised race and marshals for outstanding support on a very windy, exposed course. The route was tougher than I'd thought, climbing gradually but relentlessly up to the High Peak trail for the first 23 miles! We then plunged downhill like divebombers for the next mile, leaving my calves and quads screaming to grind out the last mile down by the canal. The narrow trail was packed with bikers, walkers and horse-riders. Most were ok but some were pains in the backside, wandering all over the place. I even saw an Alsation chasing a terrified runner downhill in front of me at mile 24 after its idiot owner let if off the lead. How dumb can people be?! Excellent support at the finish and a superb goody bag. Just a shame they'd run out of full marathon T-shirts before I could buy one.

In short: This one rocks, you won't do many more relaxing & scenic 26 miles... In full: Fantastic race, great VFM, good organisation, really good atmosphere and a cracking PB for me! Happy day out :-) If you like smaller races and a challenging course this one is well worth checking out, I'll be back to do it again... Date of review: May 22, 2011
