In short: simply the best In full: Slightly biased as this is my local run but can anyone honestly fault it. Big well done for the police for the escort, I had my most enjoyable run in years even though age means running a PB is only a dream. The marshalls were as superb as usual and thanks to those who urged me on (that's all of them). Roll on 2012 & finish number 34. Date of review: April 6, 2011
In short: Great views, great marshalls and sore legs In full: My second go, loved it more this time round - great effort by the police and coach drivers winding the convoy of coaches up to Combe Gibbet where the view is pretty stunning. If you're not too busy watching your feet there are great views to be had along much of the course, so much so that the last mile back into Overton feels like a bit of a let down.
Marshalls did a sterling job, all very friendly and encouraging - thank you.
Chalky paths can be a bit hard on the feet, and the slog up the other side of the A34 seems to go on for ever, but this is a race where you will feel a sense of achievement crossing the line.
A bit of a hidden gem really. Date of review: April 5, 2011
In short: Another excellent Gibbet race In full: Great marshalling and organisation as ever. Some comments previously that the coach journey was tedious but it is part of what makes this event different and entertaining - getting round those narrow lanes. Alternative might be a chinook?! Will definitely be back! Date of review: April 5, 2011
In short: The Best Race Anywhere In full: This is always the first race in my diary for so many reasons; wonderful camaraderie on the buses to the start, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic marshals, breath-taking views, incredible organisation, the fact it is one of so few point-to-point races, chatting to other runners during the race and the cake at the end.
Thank you Overton Harriers for yet another wonderful edition of this amazing race.
In short: One for the diary In full: As usual; a fantastic point to point race. I for one love the Police escort to the start and it never ceases to amaze me how they can get 4 x huge coaches up those tiny lanes to the start. One previous reviewer mentioned a late start and was quite negative about the event - it was only 5 minutes late off !!!! everyone I spoke to enjoyed the experience - including the tea & cakes afterwards.
Well done Overton Athletics Club, the marshalls, the Police and those brave coach drivers.
Will be back next year....again !!!!!!!! Date of review: April 5, 2011
In short: unusual club race with great sceanery if you dare look up! Had to watch my footing all the time. Big mistake to use this as a pre London training run, nearly destroyed my ankles and I'm very used to cross-country, try. In full: race didn't start on time, cakes were nearly all gone when I finished, tea was stewed and undrinkable, the coach journey to the start became very tedious and goodness knows why police need to be involved. Hampshire constabulary obviously haven't got a lot to do!All that said a good run to try. Date of review: April 4, 2011
In short: no frills race with wonderful scenery and big hills In full: A point to point race from the Combe Gibbet. Buses supplied to the beginning with a police escort! Wonderful bargain basement race, no frills and great value for money. The scenery was superb and the hills relentless. You definately need your off road race for this fast club race. Quick off the mark but well worth the trip despite being near the back of the pack. Wonderfully cheery marshalls Date of review: April 3, 2011
In short: fast mainly downhill mt race In full: very cold on the gibbet so very fast (sprint start) surface very knobbly as mud had dried rockhard so i had to watch my footing - rain and mud for next year please. enjoyed the climb after the A34 didnt enjoy the road sections! finished just in time before I hit the wall. probably will do it again if it doesnt clash with the chedworth 10 like it has in most previous years Date of review: April 21, 2010
